CrisisX is the newest project from developer Hero Games

  • CrisisX is developer Hero Games‘ newest project
  • It looks to be an open-world survival game of some sort
  • Set in the 1990s, you play as a protagonist trying to survive in a world of mutated monsters

As someone who has spent countless hours navigating through post-apocalyptic landscapes in various survival games, the announcement of CrisisX by Hero Games piqued my interest. With a setting reminiscent of my youth in the 90s and a premise that seems eerily familiar yet intriguingly different, I find myself eagerly anticipating what this game has to offer.

Hero Games, well-known for their collaboration with Kuro Games, the creators of Wuthering Waves, has unveiled their latest venture called CrisisX. Although specifics are scarce at the moment, we do have a cinematic trailer, glimpses of gameplay, and exciting news that attendees of Gamescom 2024 can get hands-on with this project during the event!

The story unfolds in a quaint American town from the 1990s, where a catastrophic scientific mishap leads to a terrifying outbreak transforming humans and animals into hideous monstrosities. To endure this world, you’ll direct your protagonist towards forging relationships with other survivors, uncovering their individual purposes and incentives to carry on living.

Essentially, it’s similar to what you’d find in most post-apocalyptic or zombie survival games, but with a unique twist due to its retro setting. The gameplay shown in the recent Xbox reveal trailer appears somewhat unpolished, which is typical for games of this scale during early development.

What to expect?

While I don’t anticipate CrisisX to rival Red Dead Redemption 2 in terms of immersion, I’m hoping that upon its complete release, it will offer something more expansive and daring than the gameplay trailer, leaning towards the style of the teaser video. If you’re planning to visit Gamescom 2024, be sure to check out CrisisX at the Hero Games booth in Hall 10.1.
