A TV show inspired by “Ghost of Tsushima: Legends” is being developed right now, and it’s expected to be released in the year 2027. This news was shared during the Sony Group Corporation’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) press conference.
Sucker Punch Productions is collaborating with Crunchyroll, Aniplex (known for shows like Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Solo Leveling, Sword Art Online), Sony Music, and PlayStation Productions to produce a new series. Takanobu Mizuno will be in charge of directing, KAMIKAZE DOUGA will handle the animation, and Gen Urobuchi has signed on for composition work with Sony.
As a fervent admirer, I can’t disclose specific plot points yet, but the co-op multiplayer game derived from the source material, “Legends,” in Ghost of Tsushima, is shrouded in Japanese folklore and mythology. This intriguing title invites players to select from four distinct classes and embark on missions steeped in Japanese mythology. The anime is poised to blend the game’s authentic samurai ambiance with captivating narratives and visually stunning scenes, with further details to be unveiled at a later time.
Rahul Purini, President of Crunchyroll, commented that this project showcases the collaborative ingenuity within Sony, blending the talents from PlayStation Studios and PlayStation Productions, Sucker Punch Productions and Aniplex, Sony Music’s world-renowned artists, and Crunchyroll’s global marketing and distribution network. He further explained that the ‘Ghost of Tsushima’ anime will provide fans with a fresh, thrilling perspective on the game, offering an anime-style experience that is both daring and innovative.
Asad Qizilbash, from PlayStation Productions, stated, “We’ve already demonstrated the exceptional quality and adaptability of our gaming content in numerous successful film and TV projects. So, we’re thrilled to unveil our very first anime adaptation! The captivating setting and mythological elements of Ghost of Tsushima, particularly its Legends mode, make it an ideal choice for this project. We believe Aniplex is the ideal collaborator to transform Sucker Punch Productions’ popular video game into a breathtaking new anime series.
Tom Mackay, President of Premium Content at Sony Music Entertainment, expressed his enthusiasm about generating fresh platforms for artists to interact with exceptional international intellectual properties. He noted that music significantly impacts the overall audience’s viewing experience and is delighted to collaborate with fellow Sony partners in producing engaging content for fans globally.
