As a seasoned crypto investor with over two decades of experience, I have seen the industry grow from a niche market to a global phenomenon. However, incidents like the tragic death of Kevin Mirshahi serve as grim reminders that not everything that glitters is gold.
25-year-old cryptocurrency influencer, Kevin Mirshahi, whose whereabouts were unknown since June, has tragically passed away; his lifeless body was discovered.
According to the Montreal Gazette, it was reported that the Sûreté du Québec confirmed that Mirshahi’s remains were found in Montreal’s Île-de-la-Visitation Park.
Upon stumbling upon my deceased form, an investigation was initiated which ultimately led to my identification via an autopsy examination.
The case, which marks Montreal’s 32nd homicide of 2024, has highlighted a concerning pattern of violence within the crypto community, raising questions about the safety of high-profile figures in the sector.
Timeline of Mirshahi’s disappearance and death
On June 21st, it was reported that Mirshahi went missing. In the early hours of that day, he along with three other individuals were supposedly taken from a condominium building located in Old Montreal.
According to The Gazette, it was reported that the Montreal Police were informed of a disturbance occurring at a house located close to de la Commune and St-Hubert Streets, after receiving a 911 call.
Cryptocurrency Expert from Montreal Found Dead in Park after June Abduction
The body of Kevin Mirshahi, a well-known cryptocurrency influencer, was discovered in Île-de-la-Visitation park several months following his abduction in June.
A 32-year-old woman has been charged with murder, but no links to his crypto company “Crypto Paradise Island” have been established.
Mirshahi’s cause of death remains undisclosed at this time.

As the other three kidnap victims were swiftly found, Mirshahi continued to elude detection, causing the authorities to intensify their probe and hand it over to the SQ (Quebec’s provincial police force).
According to The Gazette’s report, during their preliminary probe, the police named Joanie Lepage, a resident of Les Cèdres, Quebec who is 32 years old, as a potential culprit.
In August, she was taken into custody for first-degree murder and kidnapping related to the case of Mirshahi. The authorities claim that Lepage may have helped hide Mirshahi’s demise, although the investigations are still ongoing to establish if any other individuals could be implicated as well.
Mirshahi’s background in crypto
In Montreal’s cryptocurrency community, Mirshahi stood out as a notable individual, largely because he oversaw the operation of a private investment company known as “Crypto Paradise Island,” according to The Gazette.
His activities in the crypto space attracted public and regulatory scrutiny, particularly from Quebec’s investment authority, the Autorité des Marchés Financiers.
In the year 2021, the AMF imposed limitations upon Mirshahi, prohibiting him and two colleagues from providing investment advice or engaging in securities transactions. Two weeks following his disappearance, these restrictions were further tightened in July 2024, restricting his online activities and mandating that he halt the promotion of related content on social media platforms.
It’s important to note that this incident isn’t the solitary crypto-related crime that has occurred in Canada this month. In fact, on November 6th, the Toronto police were investigating a kidnapping case involving WonderFi CEO Dean Skurka. He was abducted in downtown Toronto and later released following the payment of a $1 million ransom electronically.
