During a recent conversation with News18 Showsha, Ananya Panday talked about her struggle dealing with fame and stardom. She revealed, “My imposter syndrome comes from something as simple as when someone says my name. During interviews and stuff, I feel like my name isn’t really mine, and it makes me feel like a third person. That pushes me to suddenly become like someone else.”
Whenever I spot myself on a giant poster or in one of my movies, it seems as though I’m observing someone else. It’s almost as if I become a spectator, losing sight of the fact that it’s really me appearing on the screen.
The 25-year-old actress also shared that she’s quite self-critical and frequently seeks confirmation from others, particularly on movie sets. She admitted that even when the director gives her the ‘okay,’ she isn’t satisfied with her performance, believing she could have done it better. If given the choice, she expressed that she would always redo everything because she sees opportunities for improvement in every take.
Was Ananya questioned more about whether the imposter syndrome arises due to the harsh criticism and judgment she experiences on social media? To this, she explains that it varies from day to day. On some days, she can brush off negative comments about herself, but other times, she may doubt her abilities based on what someone said about her on Instagram, such as feeling like she’s not good enough.
She noted that difficult shooting days, along with struggles with a particular shot, seem to affect her personally. Additionally, she highlighted the potential negative influence of social media on individuals.
In her latest roles in Kho Gaye Hum Kahan and Call Me Bae, Ananya’s acting has been warmly applauded by film enthusiasts. This positive reception, she shared, has significantly bolstered her confidence as an artist, causing her to feel content with the artistic decisions she’s made. “It’s a satisfying feeling,” she expressed.
