Curated 5: Phoebe Beckett of LDN LOFT

As a design enthusiast with a penchant for all things timeless and elegant, I must admit that the recent collaboration between Habitat and Morris & Co. has truly swept me off my feet! Growing up in a house filled with antiques and vintage pieces, I’ve always had a soft spot for British classics, and this collection is a perfect blend of tradition and modernity.

Announcing a collaboration: Habitat is joining forces with Morris & Co. for their newest line, focusing on the skill of handcrafting.

This collaboration combines a variety of elements such as soft fabrics, furniture, decorative items, and more. It blends the distinctive styles of the brand with Habitat’s extensive knowledge of household goods. Drawing inspiration from the brand’s history and the home of its creator, artist and designer William Morris, the signature colors and designs are given a fresh, modern interpretation to pay tribute to the rich heritage while ensuring they harmonize perfectly with contemporary homes.

In this new installment of “Curated 5,” we invite interior designer Phoebe Beckett of LDN LOFT to highlight her preferred items from Habitat’s 60th-anniversary collection, sharing her insights on how she styles these pieces for a fresh and contemporary look.

Sunflower Woodblock Bedding

First conceived in 1879, Morris’ Sunflower design has long been synonymous with the brand. Renewed by Habitat designer Heather Goode, this timeless pattern is now expressed as a woodblock print. Its black-and-white motif offers a blend of classic elegance and modern charm to any bedroom setting.

Cantlebury Writing Desk

This classic writing desk, crafted by David Hutcheson, beautifully represents the “less is more” philosophy. With a strong emphasis on quality workmanship, the handcrafted wooden design draws inspiration from the arts & crafts movement and adds a splash of color with its contrasting green worktop, making it an excellent choice for those seeking a pop of color. Functionality is also prioritized, as it comes equipped with an integrated drawer and pen holder, perfect for maintaining a clean, organized workspace that adheres to the “a tidy space, a tidy mind” approach.

Merton Upholstered Armchair

This accent chair showcases an exquisite blend of English countryside style and timeless cream upholstery, offering a cozy cushioned seat with pocket springs for added support, a padded backrest, and low arms that make it ideal for unwinding. Beckett points out the intricate details such as the back buttons and oak-turned legs supported by brass castors, which highlight the skillful craftsmanship involved.

Hammersmith Marble Side Table

As a gamer, I’m proud to showcase this stunning piece that boasts a unique turned-column design, standing tall on a solid marble foundation. The blend of materials is a testament to exquisite craftsmanship and sophistication. The verdant marble adds an elegant contrast to the warm wooden finish, while the intricately carved base rests atop a curved marble pedestal, giving it a distinctive shape and style that sets it apart.

Slim Library Lamp

The Library Lamp, designed by Habitat’s top homeware and lighting expert Tom Sullivan, continues the luxurious aesthetic and serves as an attractive enhancement for any space. This lamp is particularly admired by Beckett among all other pieces in the collection. Drawing inspiration from the distinctive elements of Morris’ renowned Red House, this item is meticulously fashioned from brass with a sturdy marble base, mirroring the style of the Hammersmith Marble Side Table. This creates an elegant ambient lighting effect.
