Cynthia Erivo, John Mulaney Join Poker Face in Season 2 Teaser – Premiere Date Revealed (WATCH)

Actress Cynthia Erivo, comedian John Mulaney, Katie Holmes, Giancarlo Esposito, and other big-name celebrities are all mysterious (and unexpected) figures in the initial trailer for Season 2 of “Poker Face”. The first sneak peek, unveiled at PaleyFest LA, also confirms that the popular weekly mystery series by Rian Johnson, renowned director of “Knives Out”, will resume on Peacock on May 8th.

Indeed, Natasha Lyonne, the executive producer (of Russian Doll), reappears as Charlie Cale, a human lie detector who travels across the nation in her Plymouth Barracuda. She often finds herself unwittingly involved in mysteries similar to those of Columbo, and it’s only she who can untangle these complex cases.

In their shared announcement, Johnson and Lyonne hinted that Charlie Cale is once again on the move in Season 2, escalating her investigation into a series of murder mysteries. They described her journey as taking her through diverse settings such as minor league baseball, big box retail stores, funeral homes, alligator farms, and even a grade school talent show. Throughout this existential road-trip, Charlie employs her distinctive dry humor, compassion for others, and exceptional lie-detecting skills to solve crimes.

In crafting Season 2, Johnson drew visual influence from American cinema of the ’70s, notably Robert Altman, Bob Rafelson, and Peter Bogdanovich. However, it retains the structure of a case-of-the-week format, which fans familiar with timeless shows like Columbo, The Rockford Files, and Quantum Leap will recognize and appreciate. Johnson and Lyonne hint that each episode functions as a self-contained mini movie, distinct in its atmosphere and mood. The upcoming season features 12 brand new episodes.
