Dabba Cartel: Shabana Azmi says ‘meri kya majaal’ on revealing real reason for doing Netflix show; ‘Kyuki bahu ne…’

In a recent interview, Shabana Azmi, who is set to star in Netflix’s upcoming series “Dabba Cartel,” has been vocal about her involvement with the project. When asked if she took on the role merely due to being at home with family during these times, Shabana humorously replied, “Since my daughter-in-law wrote it and my son is producing it, what’s the point of me saying no, especially in these COVID times, right?

In a chat on Netflix India’s YouTube channel, Shabana Azmi playfully debunked the notion that she was compelled to take up the role. Instead, she explained with a touch of humor, her circumstances were far more compelling: since her daughter-in-law penned the series and her son was the producer, she found herself in a position where she had no other option but to comply, particularly during these COVID times.

In this rephrased version, you can say: Farhan Akhtar, who is Shabana’s stepson, is supporting the series by means of his production company, Excel Entertainment. Meanwhile, his spouse, Shibani Dandekar, has penned down the script for the series.

Shabana Azmi, who has been married to Javed Akhtar since 1984, has talked openly about her close ties with his children, Farhan and Zoya Akhtar. She attributes this strong bond to the kindness shown by Javed’s first wife, Honey Irani, towards herself.

During a Zoom conversation, Shabana expressed that the relationship they share wouldn’t exist without Honey’s openness to involve them in their life since their early years.

Farhan and Zoya didn’t view their stepmother in the traditional, unfair way portrayed in fairy tales due to her openness, which significantly facilitated their relationship-building process.

As per Netflix’s own summary, the series Dabba Cartel revolves around the lives of five women who establish a lunchbox delivery service, but with a surprising secret, as an investigation into a drug company affects them personally.

This series boasts an impressive lineup of well-known actors such as Shabana Azmi, Jyotika, Gajraj Rao, Nimisha Sajayan, Shalini Pandey, Anjali Anand, Sai Tamhankar, Jisshu Sengupta, Lillete Dubey, and Bhupendra Singh Jadawat.

Under the guidance of director Hitesh Bhatia, the crime drama titled “Dabba Cartel” is all set to debut on Netflix on February 28, 2025. This compelling show has been crafted by the creative minds of Shibani Akhtar, Vishnu Menon, Gaurav Kapur, and Akanksha Seda. The production of this gripping series is handled by Excel Media and Entertainment.
