On a single, special night, a revamped high-definition version of Daft Punk and Leiji Matsumoto’s iconic 2003 animated masterpiece, “Interstella 5555: The Tale of the Hidden Star System“, will be showing in cinemas again.

On December 12th, enthusiasts will get a unique chance to view the remastered version of “Interstella 5555” by Daft Punk on the big screen, with the film being shown in more than 800 cinemas spread across over 40 different countries. Trafalgar Releasing’s CEO, Marc Allenby, expressed his excitement about this one-night-only global event, stating that it is a rare opportunity for audiences worldwide to enjoy the film on the big screen alongside Daft Punk’s music videos.

In 2003, Interstella 5555 was introduced to us, a joint production between Daft Punk, Cédric Hervet, Matsumoto, and Toei Animation. This animated series tells the tale of an extraterrestrial band who fall victim to a malevolent human character. Notably, the entirety of Daft Punk’s 2001 album, Discovery, serves as its captivating soundtrack.

Shinji Shimizu from Toei Animation excitedly expressed, “‘One More Time’ was being screened everywhere in the city back then! I couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride that made me want to shout to passersby, ‘We are currently working on its animation!’

In honor of the film’s cinema comeback, Daft Punk plans to unveil a restricted quantity of the Discovery: Interstella 5555 Edition albums. These albums will feature the original Japanese artwork for the album Discovery, along with some exclusive merchandise.

Look up the ticketing details on their official site as Interstella 5555: The Story of the Secret Star System is showing in cinemas from December 12. (This version uses a consistent style for the title, while maintaining the original’s rhythm and structure.)
