Daisy Ridley Reveals Graves’ Disease Diagnosis

As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the Star Wars universe through Daisy Ridley‘s compelling portrayal of Rey, it’s both heartening and humbling to learn about her personal battles outside the galaxy far, far away. Her recent revelation of being diagnosed with Graves’ disease serves as a reminder that even our beloved heroes are human beings dealing with their own health challenges.

Daisy Ridley has revealed she has been diagnosed with Graves’ disease.

In an article for Women’s Health magazine, the actress from Star Wars revealed that she was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder in September of last year. It was during the filming of the thriller Magpie, which centers around a woman who loses grip on her health as her marriage deteriorates, when Ridley first noticed something amiss with her health.

As a gamer, I’d say, “After playing an intensely challenging game session, I couldn’t help but notice my body feeling run down. I figured it was just the pressure of the role I was playing catching up to me.” Later on, my regular doctor suggested I consult an endocrinologist due to symptoms like a rapid heartbeat, unexplained weight loss, exhaustion, and tremors.

When the physician explained that Graves’ disease could cause a feeling of being “exhausted yet restless,” this resonated with Ridley. “It was amusing, I thought to myself, ‘I merely assumed I was irritated with the world,’ but it appears everything is operating so swiftly that you can’t relax.”

Ever since then, I’ve found myself incorporating a daily medication regimen along with various wellness practices into my lifestyle. These include infrared saunas, cryotherapy sessions, regular massages, acupuncture treatments, and soothing baths. Additionally, I chose to follow a gluten-free diet to manage my inflammation levels. While I’m not entirely strict with it, reducing my gluten intake noticeably improves how I feel.

Graves’ disease is referred to as a health condition that impacts the thyroid gland due to an overactive immune system. This results in excessive production of thyroid hormones, leading to hyperthyroidism, which may impact various organs. While anyone can develop Graves’ disease, it’s more prevalent among women and individuals aged 30 and above.

Not just Ridley who’s opened up about receiving a diagnosis; back in 2018, Wendy Williams also disclosed that she has Graves’ disease. As a result, she temporarily stepped away from her self-titled talk show for about three weeks.
