As a seasoned gamer with over three decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the release of “Saturday Night” has truly brought back the nostalgia and excitement of my youth. Growing up in the 70s and 80s, Saturday Night Live was an integral part of our cultural landscape, shaping humor, politics, and entertainment.
Dan Aykroyd has officially given Saturday Night his stamp of approval.
On a now familiar platform (originally known as Twitter), the actor and former cast member of Saturday Night Live posted his opinions about Jason Reitman’s recent movie, focusing on the crucial 90 minutes preceding the first airing of the sketch comedy show in 1975.
Celebrating Jason Reitman’s successful SNL movie by giving it a round of applause, Aykroyd commented after watching it at his local cinema. ‘What an exhilarating, captivating, humorous, flawlessly performed and directed film, filled with suspense, adventure, and music. A fantastic glimpse into the creative process at its best. And remarkably true to life.’
The actor from “Ghostbusters” went on to say, “I was present that night, and I had the pleasure of experiencing it all over again. Kudos to Gil, Jason, and Blumie. Whether you’re familiar with the show or not, don’t miss out. It’s a self-contained masterpiece and a strong contender for Best Picture.
The movie, titled “Saturday Night”, unfolds on October 11, 1975 – the debut day of SNL. It narrates the story of a daring group of young comedians and writers who revolutionize television. Dylan O’Brien portrays Aykroyd, with Gabriel LaBelle as Lorne Michaels, Rachel Sennott as Rosie Shuster, Cory Michael Smith as Chevy Chase, Ella Hunt as Gilda Radner, Emily Fairn as Laraine Newman, Matt Wood as John Belushi, Lamorne Morris as Garrett Morris, Kim Matula as Jane Curtin, Nicholas Braun as Andy Kaufman and Andrew Barth Feldman as Neil Levy.
Previously, Reitman shared with The Hollywood Reporter that discovering the film’s Aykroyd proved to be the most challenging task, expressing his feelings as “truly terrifying.” The director noted that the actor possessed a “remarkably distinct charm,” which made him ecstatic when he discovered that “Dylan O’Brien enjoyed widespread female admiration.” This realization confirmed for Reitman that he had found the perfect fit for the role.
Akroyd expressed his enthusiasm on social platforms about the “eager anticipation” of witnessing how Jason’s “funny and suspenseful tale unfolds,” as he was the “sole original cast member granted access to the script.
Saturday Night is currently playing in theaters.
