Dancing With The Stars Fans Wanted A Different Contestant Eliminated On Halloween Night, But Here's Why I Totally Disagree

As a long-time fan of Dancing With The Stars and someone who has seen more than their fair share of contestants stumble through the ballroom, I must say that this week’s elimination left me scratching my head. While I understand the sentiment from fans who feel that Dwight Howard shouldn’t have advanced over Jenn Tran, I wholeheartedly disagree.

Heed my words, fellow dance enthusiast! This here’s a sneak peek into the latest “Halloween Nightmares” episode of “Dancing With The Stars.” To catch the full frightful fun, you’ll need a subscription to the magical streaming platform, Disney+. Proceed with caution, for I warn you, there be spoilers ahead!

In the end, it was inevitable that Season 33 of Dancing With The Stars would see an elimination that stirred controversy. Regardless of consistent performance ratings all season long, it was ultimately Jenn Tran and Sasha Farber who said their goodbyes. Many online viewers felt strongly that Dwight Howard and Daniella Karagach should’ve been the ones to depart instead.

In a different perspective, I don’t share the opinion of social media users about Dwight Howard being a poor dancer or a weak performer on the show. Even though Bachelor Nation seems disappointed with Jenn leaving for Dwight, who has been scoring low, I stand by him this week. It might be an unpopular view, but I believe Dwight should have stayed over Tran in this round.

Dwight’s Solo Performance Was The Best Of The Night

In plain terms: Dwight Howard is undeniably struggling the most among the remaining contestants in Dancing With The Stars Season 33, as seen statistically. At this point in the competition, even someone like Reginald VelJohnson can’t rely on a Die Hard tribute to keep going. This week, however, Howard managed to pull off an almost flawless performance for “Halloween Nightmares” night, which could be considered a miracle.

In an astonishing turn of events, he managed to secure the first ten scores of the season, which was unexpected, particularly since it was awarded by Carrie Ann Inaba. Though Inaba generously distributed tens throughout the evening, few would have predicted that the bottom performer would be the one to achieve this feat in the very first season of “Dancing With The Stars.” I must admit that I had thought Ilona Maher deserved the perfect score for her “Encanto” dance the previous week. However, I’m not a professional dancing judge, so my opinion may not carry much weight.

Daniella Emphasized A Dance That Highlighted Dwight’s Strengths, And It Paid Off

Dwight Howard managed to avoid elimination on this week’s “Dancing With The Stars,” and that’s largely thanks to Daniella Karagach’s exceptional choreography. Her work is consistently impressive, and tonight’s performance brought back memories of a memorable routine she had several seasons ago. Did anyone else think they were watching a repeat of Iman Shumpert‘s stint on the show?

On Halloween night, NBA veteran Shumpert displayed an outstanding performance that carried him throughout the game until its end. Interestingly, Shumpert and his partner Karagach made history as the first NBA player to win a Mirrorball Trophy, but their achievement doesn’t stop there. They managed to outperform JoJo Siwa and Jenna Johnson, who also made history by being the first same-sex duo on the show. What makes this even more impressive is that they were up against two professional dancers, making their victory noteworthy indeed.

The point I’m making here is that Daniella Karagach just might be the X-factor that Dwight Howard needs to go far in this competition. There’s something to her ability to see her contestant’s skills and figure out a way to make them shine. If this latest episode is a sign she’s finally cracked the code with Howard, Jenn Tran’s exit won’t be the most shocking in the coming weeks. The upside here is that her exit wasn’t nearly as brutal as her finale on The Bachelorette.

The upcoming “Dancing With The Stars” episode won’t air until after November 5th’s election, so mark your calendars for Tuesday, November 12th at 8:00 p.m. ET on ABC and Disney+. We’ll find out then if Dwight Howard’s impressive performance was a one-time thing or if he’s poised to become this season’s breakout star.
