Daniel Day-Lewis Sets Acting Return for ‘Anemone’ With Son Ronan Directing

As a seasoned film enthusiast who has had the privilege of witnessing Daniel Day-Lewis‘s extraordinary acting prowess since his debut in 1985, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and nostalgia upon hearing about his return to the big screen. The fact that his son Ronan is making his directorial debut with this project adds an intriguing layer to the whole affair.

Daniel Day-Lewis is making his return to feature acting with his son at the helm.

Daniel Day-Lewis is slated to appear in the upcoming movie titled “Anemone,” directed by debutant Ronan Day-Lewis. Produced by Focus Features and Plan B, this film signifies Daniel Day-Lewis’ return to acting after a four-year break, following his role in the 2017 film “Phantom Thread” which he had announced would be his last before retiring.

A team of a father and his son collaborated on writing a script delving into familial ties, focusing particularly on relationships between fathers, sons, and siblings. The ensemble cast includes Sean Bean, Samantha Morton, Samuel Bottomley, and Safia Oakley-Green.

We’re absolutely thrilled to join forces with the talented artist Ronan Day-Lewis for his debut feature film, where he collaborates creatively with Daniel Day-Lewis. Peter Kujawski, our chairman, made this announcement in a statement, praising their exceptional script. We can’t wait to share their unique vision with audiences, working alongside Plan B Entertainment on this project.

On our creative team, we have Ben Fordesman serving as our director of photography, Jane Petrie handling costume design, and Chris Oddy taking charge as the production designer.

Universal Pictures International will distribute internationally for Focus.

26-year-old Ronan Day-Lewis, who specializes in both filmmaking and painting, will be showcasing his first solo art exhibit in Hong Kong, starting this coming Wednesday.

More to come.
