Daniel Kaluuya Joins Spanish Director Rodrigo Sorogoyen on Cannes Critics’ Week Jury

Daniel Kaluuya, the esteemed British actor who won an Oscar for his roles in “Get Out” and “Judas and the Black Messiah”, has been selected to serve on this year’s jury for Cannes Critics’ Week, which is being led by renowned Spanish director Rodrigo Sorogoyen known for “The Beasts”.

The jury is made up of five members, including Moroccan journalist Jihane Bougrine, French-Canadian cinematographer Josée Deshaies (known for her work in ‘Passages’ and ‘The Beast’), as well as Indonesian producer Yulia Evina Bhara (who has worked on ‘Tiger Stripes’ and ‘Autobiography’).

As a member of the jury, I’ll be part of the team that evaluates the top games (or films) competing in the 64th Critics’ Week, which is Cannes’ special section for debut and sophomore features. This exciting event takes place from May 14th to the 22nd.

[Cannes Critics’ Week] clearly shows its dedication to nurturing and trusting emerging filmmakers,” Sorogoyen stated, highlighting the significance of this platform for fresh perspectives.

In 2013, Sorogoyen launched his feature film career with “Stockholm,” a joint work with Isabel Peña, which marked the beginning of a fruitful partnership that has resulted in films such as “May God Save Us” (2016), “The Candidate” (2018), and “Mother” (2019). Additionally, they collaborated on “The Beasts,” released in 2022. The suspenseful film featuring Marina Foïs and Denis Ménochet, was Sorogoyen’s first appearance at Cannes, ultimately taking home nine Goya Awards, including the categories for best film and best director.

This year’s Critics’ Week jury plans to present several prestigious awards, including the AMI Paris Grand Prize for outstanding feature films, the French Touch Prize chosen by the jury itself, the Louis Roederer Foundation Rising Star Award, and the Leitz Cine Discovery Prize dedicated to exceptional short films.

The full Critics’ Week lineup will be revealed on April 14.
