After Daniel Roth underwent a successful comeback last year, the once highly esteemed name in independent watchmaking is now carrying on its contemporary resurgence with the presentation of Extra Plat Souscription – a dress watch that aligns with the brand’s historical foundations set in the 1990s.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled about the latest reveal – the Extra Plat Souscription II! This beauty is the second addition to the Souscription series from La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton, blending functionality and elegance in an incredibly slim design. You know, I’ve always been a fan of ultra-thin dress watches, and it seems that Roth, the brand’s founder, shared my sentiment too. He introduced the first Extra Plat in 1991, just a year after establishing the brand with the Tourbillon C187.
The Extra Plate Subscription model honors the brand’s roots, mirroring the design and craftsmanship of the Tourbillon Subscription but with a completely fresh mechanical core – the DR002 movement. This movement, uniquely designed for this watch, showcases the brand’s dedication to both aesthetic and technical excellence, as it boasts a power reserve of 65 hours.
The watch is housed in an elegant 18k yellow gold casing, with a face that coordinates perfectly and has a Clou de Paris pattern, intricately crafted using the traditional hand-guilloché method. The chapter ring and base showcase a Filet Sauté border, which was applied using an antique machine from the 1850s. One skilled artisan, working at La Fabrique du Temps, spends a painstaking 10 hours on each dial, meticulously creating both its components by hand.
The watch’s case has a diameter of 35.5 millimeters and a slender build, standing at 7.7 millimeters thick. Although its dimensions have been revised, it maintains the classic double ellipse shape that the original is known for. Moreover, each lug on this timepiece is individually crafted and meticulously soldered to the case by hand.
Daniel Roth’s Extra Plat Souscription comes equipped with a soft, light-toned leather strap made from calfskin in a shade of beige-brown. This timepiece will only be produced in a limited run of 20 pieces. For additional information about its release, visit the brand’s official website.
