Danielle Fishel Thinks ‘Boy Meets World’ Should Not Have Had Cory and Topanga Get Married

As a long-time fan who grew up with the hilarious antics of the Boy Meets World gang, I must say that Danielle Fishel’s recent revelation about Topanga and Cory’s marriage has certainly piqued my interest! While I understand and respect her perspective as an actor, having been part of those iconic scenes myself, I can’t help but feel a twinge of nostalgia for the wedded bliss of Cory and Topanga.

Danielle Fishell feels that her character on “Boy Meets World” wouldn’t have gotten married, if given the option.

In the most recent edition of the “Pod Meets World” podcast, which is a re-examination of the popular TV series “Boy Meets World”, some dedicated viewers were given the opportunity to pose questions to the cast about the sitcom. One viewer inquired as to what aspect of the show the hosts and stars, including Danielle Fishel, Rider Strong, and Will Friedle, would alter if they had the chance.

“According to Fishel, she wouldn’t have Cory and Topanga tie the knot initially. Instead, she might have had him propose, with a possible yes response. They would go through the planning process, but ultimately decide it might not be the best decision for them at this time.”

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but express my sentiment: Fishel’s words resonate deeply with me. She advocates that the couple should remain united, stating, “There’s no need for them to part ways.” Instead, she proposes a thoughtful twist: “Perhaps we could delay the marriage aspect until the final moments of the show, allowing us to experience their relationship without the binding constraints of matrimony for most of the series.”

Friedle labeled his ex-cast member’s viewpoint as a “bold, contemporary perspective.” Rider concurred, remarking that it was indeed “bold and timely, given we haven’t yet reached that point in the series.” The actress justified her stance, stating that following her character’s marriage to Cory, the writers were challenged to devise fresh, high-stakes scenarios for them.

“She recollected not taking a liking to the situation, as it seemed they could have benefited from spending more time together before tying the knot.”

Regarding Friedle’s decision about whom to retain in the show, he expressed his preference for maintaining the early beloved character, Stuart Minkus, portrayed by Lee Norris. This character was prominent in the initial season and later made a comeback for a guest role in season 5.

“Friedle noted that the dynamic among Fishel, Strong, Norris, and Savage’s characters in the show was rich with comedic potential and camaraderie as a friend group. He believes that by removing Lee’s character, they overlooked a significant amount of humor that could have been explored.”

Additionally, Friedle mentioned that he would have preferred to extend the tenure of another cherished actor, Anthony Tyler Quinn, who portrayed Jonathan Turner from 1994 to 1997. However, if he had to keep just one [actor], he admitted that he would have had to retain Lee.

Absolutely, I concur with your appreciation of Norris’ acting talents. However, he suggested that if Quinn had continued in the series beyond the fourth season, the subsequent seasons might have seemed more realistic or rooted. Eventually, Quinn reappeared alongside the cast for “Girl Meets World.”
