In the upcoming original Disney+ series titled “Daredevil: Born Again,” which is reminiscent of the cherished Netflix show “Daredevil,” fans can expect a similar tone and aesthetic. However, showrunner Dario Scardapane hints that the new series will address one significant issue from the original Daredevil series. Charlie Cox reprises his role as Matt Murdock in this sequel, alongside familiar faces such as Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, Jon Bernthal as The Punisher, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, and Elden Hensen as Foggy Nelson.
In an interview with SFX Magazine (through GamesRadar+), Dario Scardapane discussed how the upcoming series “Born Again” will distinguish itself from the original “Daredevil”, aiming to rectify some of the initial show’s imperfections. Scardapane acknowledged that at its peak, the earlier show was outstanding, a view shared by many who consider “Daredevil” to be one of the best superhero TV series ever made. However, according to Scardapane, it wasn’t entirely perfect. He went on to say:

– In his interview with SFX Magazine (via GamesRadar+), Dario Scardapane outlined how “Born Again” will diverge from the original “Daredevil”, aiming to correct some of the shortcomings found in the initial series. Scardapane admitted that at its zenith, the earlier show was superb, a view shared by many who regard “Daredevil” as one of the finest superhero TV series ever created. However, according to Scardapane, it wasn’t infallible. He proceeded:
To be honest, it was a bit tedious when the conversation revolved around defining what a hero is between two characters. I prefer seeing them out there, living up to the role.
Dario Scardapane significantly distinguishes Born Again from the rest of Marvel’s Netflix series by focusing on pacing. As he stated, “One of our principles was longer scenes.” This allowed for extended, five-page conversations between characters to create room for grand action sequences. With advancements in filmmaking techniques since then, it’s now possible to execute high-octane action sequences at a faster pace.
‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Is a “New York Crime Story”
The highly anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe/Disney+ series, “Daredevil: Born Again,” is set to debut on March 4. The latest trailer has unveiled the formidable adversaries, both familiar and unfamiliar, that Matt Murdock will face in this new installment. Despite staying faithful to the original series, as stated by Dario Scardapane, the upcoming “Born Again” is taking a fresh thematic approach compared to the initial “Daredevil.
According to Scardapane, the upcoming series draws inspiration from some renowned ’90s mafia films and television series, notably, the iconic “The Sopranos.
He clarified, “I truly believe that the Netflix series Daredevil, which I know inside and out, had a more noir style and was essentially a New York crime story. It shares similarities with The Sopranos and King of New York. There’s a certain vibe reminiscent of ’90s crime narratives. It moves at a unique pace and encompasses a breadth that Netflix, for various reasons, couldn’t quite achieve. They were quite dark visually, not necessarily in terms of the storyline, although there were some gloomy aspects. However, we take it to another level of darkness.
Although Season 1 of “Daredevil: Born Again” hasn’t hit the screens yet, Marvel Studios appear to be quite optimistic about the series as it has already been greenlit for a second season. Intriguingly, filming for Season 2 commences even before fans can watch Season 1.
