“Daredevil: Born Again” Season 2 Aims for Spring 2026 Premiere, But Ratings on First Season Are Terrible

Initially, when the series “Daredevil: Born Again” debuted on Disney+ this year, it appeared set to rekindle Matt Murdock’s crusade for justice. Yet, despite its history and the comeback of beloved characters such as Daredevil and The Punisher, the first season has faced difficulties in captivating audiences. With a second season scheduled for March 2026, the key issue becomes: Will anyone be tuning in?

The debut of Daredevil: Born Again, which serves as a somewhat sequel to the initial Netflix series of Daredevil, has received mixed reviews, with lower ratings and criticism concerning its pace, character development, and storyline direction. Although it features returning stars like Charlie Cox as Daredevil, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher, and Vincent D’Onofrio as the Kingpin, the series has failed to recreate the enchantment that characterized the highly-acclaimed Netflix seasons.

In the final episode of Season 1, there’s a setup for a significant confrontation between Fisk and his ambition to create a city-state within Red Hook. However, even with high tension at play, some viewers found the narrative lacking in substantial conflict. The introduction of Dr. Glenn (played by Margarita Levieva) enriched the cast but seemed to increase the number of side stories rather than focusing on one captivating, main plot.

After its underwhelming premiere with lower-than-anticipated viewership, the true litmus test for the future of Daredevil: Born Again lies ahead. The series garnered just 7.5 million views in its initial five days, a figure that pales in comparison to the triumphs of other Marvel productions. Despite Disney and Variety labeling the viewership as a success, many critics and fans see it as a squandered chance for a beloved franchise with a devoted following and rich history. These numbers hint that Marvel’s efforts to resurrect Daredevil may have fallen short of their mark.

In anticipation of Season 2’s debut on March 2026, showrunner Dario Scardapene and the “Born Again” team aim to rekindle enthusiasm among fans. In a recent Instagram post, Scardapene expressed his appreciation to the cast, crew, and studio, while officially revealing the new season’s release date. His message read: “We’ve been building towards this moment… Season 2 March 2026.” As reported by Deadline, it seems that Scardapene might have hinted at a potential improvement in the show’s quality during its second run.

Will the upcoming season be able to draw viewers back following the tepid response to Season 1? Given that filming is already underway, it seems there may be some changes in store, particularly given the mixed feedback from both critics and fans. One potential factor that could reignite the series is Jon Bernthal’s character, Frank Castle, who will also star in an upcoming Punisher special on Disney+, which he co-wrote. According to Deadline, his return might indicate a refocusing on the grittier, more violent elements of the Daredevil universe—the aspects that made the original Daredevil show successful.

I must admit that Season 1 fell short in some areas, but I’m optimistic about what Season 2 could bring back to the table and reignite our love for Daredevil. The show needs to deftly blend character-focused narratives with pulse-pounding action sequences, navigating through political intrigue to deliver the raw, unflinching storytelling that Marvel’s street-level characters are renowned for. As a fan, I eagerly anticipate this balance and can’t wait to see how it unfolds.

The next season might offer the opportunity for this show to match the greatness of its former version. However, given the high level of competition among superhero TV series, we’ll have to wait and see if viewers are ready to devote their attention once more to the setting of Hell’s Kitchen.
