The small screen hasn’t always been kind to the MCU.
“She Hulk?” ’nuff said.
The original “Daredevil” series on Netflix was an exceptional case. Now, the character is reborn in another form through Disney+’s “Daredevil: Born Again.” All the elements that made it successful before are proving effective again.
Charlie Cox shines brilliantly in his role as Matt Murdock, the blind vigilante of Hell’s Kitchen. Unlike many TV portrayals, New York City retains its gritty authenticity. Moreover, very few supervillains match the intricacy of Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin.
What’s not to love? Maybe the show’s aggressive retooling in the show’s early moments.
Matt continues to work as a lawyer, yet he has abandoned his former persona. Unfortunately, we’re unable to disclose the reason due to spoiler concerns.
Despite having a fresh set of legal advisors, he’s never felt more isolated. However, this solitude becomes insignificant once he discovers that his longtime adversary, Wilson Fisk, who goes by the alias Kingpin, is vying for the position of Big Apple’s Mayor.
Just as a notable property tycoon does, Fisk seems to buck the trend and astonish the city. Could it be that we’re witnessing a fresh, formidable Kingpin, or will he leverage his political power to trounce his adversaries?
And, by extension, a certain maroon-clad warrior?
In my humble opinion, the narrative of this fresh series seems to echo our daily lives in a startlingly accurate way. It’s almost as if “Born Again” was conceived well before the November 5th triumph of Donald Trump. Yet, despite its origins, the storyline remains strikingly reminiscent of the Trump era.
Mayor Fisk pledges to make the city cleaner and distance himself from his villainous history. He’s an unconventional champion adored by the people, standing against the norm. Tired of crime and chaos, New Yorkers look towards an ex-criminal who in no way resembles a typical leader.
Sound familiar? A key subplot even echoes the Daniel Perry case in New York.
If you’re uncertain about the relationship between Trump and this character named Fisk, take a look at the caps worn by his most ardent supporters. They aren’t red, but blue, and they say, “Fisk Can Fix It.” Much like the supporters of Trump, those backing Fisk are quite rowdy too.
Yeah, we get the message.

Remarkably, the narrative lacks any hint of biased storytelling, and this series portrays Wilson Fisk not just as a character to be admired but also a complex individual. Most politically charged stories might reduce him to a one-dimensional figure.
See Apprentice, The.
Not here.
Furthermore, transforming Kingpin into a ruthless political figure is ingenious. D’Onofrio delivers an exceptional performance, fully embracing his character’s new image.
Each of his movements exudes calculated wonder. Eating breakfast with him becomes an intriguing spectacle, as he savors it as though it’s his final meal. The dramatic interludes highlight his subtle charm in a captivating manner.
In the beginning, a subtle exchange between Matt and Wilson that hints at potential confrontations ahead is an exciting anticipation. The moment of face-off is imminent…
In the initial three episodes, there’s less focus on superhero exploits. Instead, we find Matt Murdock, a remarkable lawyer, working diligently to uncover Kingpin’s political maneuvers. The opening scene of the first episode stands out, offering an exciting fight sequence that you might want to rewatch and enjoy again.
As I embarked on this captivating journey through the initial installments of this series, I was consistently taken aback by a myriad of unexpected elements. From delightful nods to familiar themes (much like discovering hidden Easter eggs) to mind-bending plot twists that left me utterly stunned – it’s an exhilarating ride! So, strap yourselves in and prepare for a rollercoaster of emotions!
The program captivates us at two significant points. We’re deeply invested in the ongoing narratives, and we eagerly anticipate future developments.
Can “She-Hulk” get “born again,” too?
