Fans are eager for elements from the Daredevil TV series to appear in the upcoming Disney+ show, “Daredevil: Born Again,” but a particular scene involving Matt Murdock’s walk of shame after a one-night stand with She-Hulk isn’t on that list. Fortunately, the showrunner, Dario Scardapane, intends to leave that scene behind. Matt Murdock, portrayed by Charlie Cox, will return in the new series, along with beloved characters such as Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio), the Punisher (Jon Bernthal), Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson), and Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll). Previously, Cox has reprised his role in various Marvel Cinematic Universe projects, including “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.” However, some of his past appearances will be more significant for the new series than others.
During a chat with SFX Magazine (through GamesRadar+), showrunner Dario Scardapane discussed Daredevil’s history and future within the MCU, expressing his desire for the character to progress beyond the contentious She-Hulk scene. “Marvel has a grand design, and your actions can set off ripples,” Scardapane started, alluding to the storyline of Born Again while subtly suggesting some debatable creative choices made with the character in the past. “I would propose ideas quite early on, only to learn they had other plans already in motion.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), it’s established that Daredevil has appeared in various projects such as “Spider-Man: No Way Home”, “She-Hulk”, and “Echo”. However, not all of these appearances carry equal weight. Scardapane clarified this by stating, “You could say Daredevil is a part of the MCU, but some of his appearances we’re not emphasizing as much.
“His one-night stand with She-Hulk may be one of those things.”
Why Was Daredevil’s ‘She-Hulk’ Cameo So Controversial?
The show “She-Hulk: Attorney At Law” has received an excessive amount of unjustified criticism from MCU fans. While some may have found it less than satisfactory, it’s crucial to acknowledge that a substantial portion of the negative feedback was generated by a vocal minority of review bombers, who might harbor prejudiced views. Interestingly, if you were to ask an MCU fan about the most disappointing aspect of the series, chances are they would point to “Daredevil‘s walk of shame” scene. This episode depicted Matt Murdock and Jennifer Walters (played by Tatiana Maslany) having a one-night stand, followed by Daredevil making an awkward barefoot walk home the next morning.
Critics disliked the particular scene as it diminished Murdock, a prominent character from the gritty and violent Daredevil series, to little more than a joke. However, Tatiana Maslany, who plays the lead in She-Hulk, was a fan of this scene and expressed her hope that if there were ever a second season for the show, she would like to see Murdock’s character revisited. In jest, Maslany mentioned, “I believe she’d definitely give it another try.” Unfortunately, as of now, She-Hulk has not been renewed for a second season.
The much-anticipated return of Daredevil, “Born Again,” will debut on Disney+ on March 5, 2025. With a promising future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the series has already been granted a second season, with production starting even before the first season’s premiere.
