Spoiler Alert for the first two episodes of Daredevil: Born Again.
The much-anticipated Marvel series “Daredevil: Born Again” was added to the 2025 TV lineup, streaming exclusively on Disney+ for subscribers. However, this news has been a mix of excitement and melancholy for longtime followers of the Netflix version, as they grapple with the bittersweet turn of events. Among the most devastating twists is the demise of Matt Murdock’s closest friend and law partner, Foggy Nelson. In an unexpected twist, the cherished character meets his end in the show’s early moments, leaving viewers heartbroken. Despite our sorrow, actor Elden Henson has remained positive, even poking fun about it with fans.
Elden Henson Responds to Foggy’s Fate
At a recent convention, the beloved Daredevil actor once more underscored his popularity among fans. In a social media post (previously known as Twitter), a fan recounted their conversation with Henson at this event, mentioning that when asked about Foggy’s sudden passing, the actor playfully replied:
I think it’s because I ran Kevin Feige’s foot over with my car.
Indeed, the actor portraying Idle Hands isn’t clear why Foggy met an unexpected and tragic end, yet he cleverly devised a side-splitting theory to explain it. A seasoned actor from The Butterfly Effect, he too shares the frustration over Foggy’s sudden and violent departure. He commented: “I may not know the real reason, but let’s just say Foggy got himself into some wildly funny predicament!
Yeah, I felt guilty because everyone was so excited, but obviously it wasn’t my decision.
As it stands (at least as we currently understand), that’s not how events unfolded, but the way the original Mighty Ducks star playfully ridicules his departure from Daredevil while maintaining a cheerful tone is quite amusing. It’s tough not to smile at the thought of the Marvel Studios president harboring a grudge over a simple parking dispute.

What Happened to Foggy Nelson In the Show
In our initial enthusiasm, we were all eager to witness Elden Henson reprise his classic character; however, Bullseye swiftly ended his appearance mere minutes into the premiere of Born Again. This undeniably solidifies the series as Disney’s most violent production to date. At first, I was doubtful when the showrunner boasted about the violence, but after watching the opening episodes, I completely understand their claim.
Characters such as Matt Murdock (Daredevil) and Kingpin have had ample opportunities to develop and progress in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Foggy Nelson, who was essential to the law firm of Nelson and Murdock, received minimal screen time before his untimely demise.

Many of us, including me, had anticipated that Foggy’s return would bring about a major resurgence for the character, but in reality, his appearance seemed only to prepare the groundwork for Matt’s new narrative. Although “Born Again” aims to offer a novel perspective on the Daredevil tale, it’s challenging not to notice the gap left by Foggy’s absence.
Could We See Foggy Return?
Notably, there have been instances where Foggy’s demise in the comic books was feigned; here are some occasions when Mr. Nelson appeared to have met his end prematurely:
1. Option 1 (Formal): In certain comic book storylines, Foggy has been depicted as dying only to later be revealed that he had staged his own death.
2. Option 2 (Casual): A few times in the comics, Foggy has faked his own death. Here are some instances:
3. Option 3 (Conversational): There have been several instances where Foggy pulled a fast one and pretended to die in the comics, not once but multiple times. These are some examples:
4. Option 4 (Informal): On more than one occasion, Foggy has fooled everyone by pretending to kick the bucket in the comics. Here are some of those instances:
5. Option 5 (Colloquial): Foggy has pulled a fast one and faked his death more than once in the comics. These are some examples:
Choose the option that best suits your writing style and tone!
- In Daredevil (1998) #82, Foggy Nelson looks like he’s been stabbed to death during a visit with Matt Murdock in prison. But guess what? Vanessa Fisk puts him in witness protection as part of her revenge plan against Daredevil and the Kingpin.
- After Matt Murdock told everyone he was Daredevil, Foggy’s life got dangerous. With their law firm in the crosshairs, Leap-Frog came after them. To keep Foggy safe, Daredevil faked his death with an explosion in DAREDEVIL (2014) #5 by Mark Waid and Chris Samnee.
- When Daredevil and Elektra got back together to reform an ancient group called the Fist, Foggy got killed and was eventually resurrected as a spy for their enemies, the Hand. In DAREDEVIL (2022) #13, Daredevil went to the afterlife to bring Foggy back. With a fresh start, Foggy teamed up with ex-detective Cole North to launch Nelson & North Legal Services.
Despite my skepticism about Foggy from the “Daredevil: Born Again” series faking his death, given Marvel’s knack for unexpected resurrections (like Loki) and the ever-changing landscape of the MCU, it’s possible that Foggy might reappear in some form. We could see a multiverse twist, a flashback, or maybe even a late revision. For now, fans cherish the memory of Matt and Foggy’s friendship and enjoy Henson’s amusing explanation for his departure.
Regardless of whether Elden Henson appears in another Marvel series, there’s no denying that he will forever be remembered as Foggy Nelson by fans. This, even if Kevin Feige decides to forgive him for the car accident, or not.
The highly anticipated series, “Daredevil: Reborn,” made its debut on Disney+ on the 4th of March. Fresh episodes will be available each Tuesday at 6 PM Pacific Time and 9 PM Eastern Time.
