Warning: Major plot reveals for the first episode of “Daredevil: Born Again,” titled “Heaven’s Half Hour,” are discussed below. Proceed with caution if you wish to avoid spoilers.
After years of eager anticipation, the highly awaited title Daredevil: Born Again has hit our 2025 TV lineup. Subscribers to Disney+ can now enjoy this sequel series, which begins with quite the explosive start! The first two episodes deliver the thrilling action and heart-wrenching drama fans have grown accustomed to from the Netflix show, even incorporating a touch of sorrow as we say farewell to a significant character early on in the premiere episode. Though it’s a sad moment, this loss proves crucial to the storyline.
Who Dies At The Start Of Daredevil: Born Again?
In the opening scene of this superhero crime drama, we find Matt Murdock, along with his colleagues and friends, Foggy Nelson and Karen Page, at their favorite hangout, Josie’s. They’re there to celebrate the retirement of veteran NYPD officer Cherry. The evening is filled with laughter until Foggy receives word from a client, Benny, whom he had helped hide after a dispute in Red Hook. Unbeknownst to Matt and Karen, this is where Foggy’s actions come into play, leading Matt to investigate the situation.
Subsequently, things take a tragic turn when Bullseye unexpectedly shoots Foggy from a distance as they chat near the tavern, Karen. Despite her valiant attempts to save him, Foggy ultimately succumbs to his wounds before the paramedics arrive. Meanwhile, Matt, in his role as Daredevil, engages Poindexter in combat, driven by grief over the death of his friend. Upon witnessing the villain’s deed, Matt tries to end Bullseye’s life by hurling him off a building.
The gruesome image of Foggy’s limp and bloodied form sprawled on the sidewalk will forever be etched in my memory. It’s disheartening to think about, especially given Elden Henson’s exceptional portrayal of Nelson, a role he first brought to life in the original series. However, I would contend that Executive Producer Dario Scardapane and his team didn’t make this decision lightly.
Why Born Again’s Major Death Scene Needed To Happen
Initially, I’m grateful they chose to depict Foggy’s death on screen instead of having him die off-screen. It’s crucial that such a significant character like Nelson doesn’t perish unseen because he’s integral to the Daredevil mythos. Admittedly, it might seem unusual coming from someone who was taken aback by that sad event. But what it implies is the beginning of a new phase, not just for Matt Murdock but for this entire franchise.

Fans are finding themselves both traumatized and overjoyed as the initial responses to the new Marvel Cinematic Universe’s series “Daredevil: Born Again” start rolling in.
Following the adjustments made on “Born Again”, I was pleased to learn that Karen and Foggy would become part of the show. Nevertheless, for this sequel series to succeed, it can’t rely solely on familiar elements but should forge its unique path within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Foggy’s heart-wrenching departure symbolizes the conclusion of one chapter in this crime saga and the commencement of a new one. This signals to viewers that we are now exploring uncharted territories, where unexpected events may occur.
In this unfavorable turn of events, Charlie Cox’s character Matt (Daredevil) will be deeply affected as he copes with the passing of his dearest friend Foggy. During an interview with TopMob, Cox expressed that Foggy’s death would linger as a haunting memory for Murdock. From a narrative perspective, this tragic development promises to add intrigue to the storyline.
Even though I might not be entirely truthful if I said I won’t continue to feel the absence of Foggy, it’s true. Elden Henson brought a sense of stability to the original series. Yet, I have to admit, I give kudos to showrunner Dario Scardapane and his team for daring to make such a bold move so early in the game, as they embark on the next chapter of the Man Without Fear‘s story.
