Dave Bautista Wants Fans to Start Petition for Gears of War Movie

For the time being, Dave Bautista seems to have parted ways with Marvel. However, he’s been keenly focused on other prominent film series in which he might shine as a leading figure.

For quite some time now, enthusiasts have longed to see Dave Bautista portray Marcus Fenix in a Gears of War film. Regrettably, any developments regarding this project have been on hold since 2023. Yet, it appears that Bautista is eager for fan support to bring the project to fruition.

“Come On, Netflix. Get It Together.”

Recently, while discussing my upcoming movie “In the Lost Lands” in an interview with ComicBook, I couldn’t help but share some excitement about Gears of War. I found myself saying, “Hey, let’s kick-start a streaming series for this epic game… Netflix, are you listening? Let’s make it happen!

It’s important to mention that Bautista has been outstanding as the main character Marcus for quite some time, and it seems like there hasn’t been any news about it for a while. When Bautista learned that fans have longed to see him lead a “Gears of War” movie, he commented, “Bro, I’m not exactly pestering them… You need to start a petition. Netflix, let’s get this moving!

The Last Update on Gears of War

Approximately two years have passed since the last significant update for “Gears of War,” which was marked by the announcement that Jon Spaihts (of “Dune” fame) would be writing the adaptation script. The developers responsible for “Gears,” known as The Coalition, made the following statement regarding this development:

We’re excited about teaming up with Jon and the Netflix crew to breathe life into Gears of War. Jon is a skilled storyteller, renowned for crafting captivating science fiction worlds, and he has a genuine fondness for Gears of War. We couldn’t have hoped for a more suitable collaborator to respect our franchise and deliver an authentic tale to our fans.

Enter Sera

In the fictional world of Sera, humans find themselves battling the Locust Horde, an aggressive race of reptilian humanoids bent on planetary destruction. The game’s hero is Marcus Fenix, a soldier from the Coalition of Ordered Governments (COG), who rallies a group of allies to confront and resist this destructive threat.

Despite the fact that wars between humans and alien species are often a staple in science fiction, Gears of War stands out due to its intense violence and high-octane action. The series is characterized by soldiers donning armor reminiscent of Warhammer, and it introduces brutal weapons such as the Lancer – an assault rifle equipped with a chainsaw for added carnage against enemy groups in close proximity.

Among the highly acclaimed Xbox 360 exclusive games, Gears was undeniably a fan favorite. Despite experiencing a decline in recent years, there’s hope that a new film on Netflix might reignite enthusiasm for the franchise.

It’s possible that Netflix will need to invest a significant amount in visual effects (VFX) to make Sera appear real, potentially causing delays. Moreover, since Bautista has recently lost a considerable amount of weight, there might be a need for him to regain it if the project eventually gets approved for production.

No release date has been set for a Gears of War movie.
