Dave Franco’s Hilarious Response to Being Cast as Luigi Mangione in Upcoming True Crime Project

Online communities often imagine actors fitting into upcoming roles, even if the projects don’t yet exist. This is the predicament that Dave Franco finds himself in due to his striking similarity to Luigi Mangione, the 26-year-old suspected murderer of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Given the anticipated film or miniseries about Mangione, it seems likely that such a project will emerge, and many online are convinced that Franco would excel in portraying the man who garnered widespread attention last December. And indeed, Franco is cognizant of these suggestions.

As a film enthusiast, I recently graced the Sundance Film Festival with my presence, presenting two brand new films, including the intriguing body-horror relationship movie, “Together,” where I have the pleasure of acting alongside my amazing wife, Alison Brie. The Hollywood Reporter brought up an amusing question concerning my likeness to the alleged murderer Luigi Mangione. My wife, ever witty, responded with a laugh, “Anyone? Do you mean everyone?” Needless to say, I found the humor in the situation and replied in good spirits.

I’ve never had as many text messages in my life on any topic. Everyone who knows my number seems to be getting in touch about it.

After Mangione was identified as the suspected CEO killer following the Dec. 4 shooting, many social media users noticed a strong resemblance between him and Franco, suggesting that the actor would be perfect for playing Mangione in any upcoming film or TV series based on this story. Some even joked that Ryan Murphy might already be working on the project given his history of dramatizing real-life crimes, such as those involving O.J. Simpson, the Menendez Brothers, and Jeffrey Dahmer.

Luigi Mangione Has Captured the Attention of the Public

Currently, there isn’t a full movie or series dedicated to Mangione, but he has been featured in short documentaries and more are planned. The crime story and the revelation of the supposed perpetrator have certainly grabbed people’s interest. It was surprising that the suspect looked like Mangione, or was someone younger who seemed to come from a privileged background. Social media quickly started to view Mangione as their heartthrob, mainly because he is an attractive man. However, this attention overshadows the fact that a person was murdered, and the impact it had on his family. A lot of the negative sentiment online stems from the public’s dislike of the healthcare system, which has made Mangione something of a symbol for some people.

As a movie enthusiast, I must say that Franco and Brie handled the comparisons gracefully. “I haven’t received any formal proposals,”” Brie pointed out, to which Franco concurred, “No, nothing official yet.” Franco, being 39 years old, is a bit older than Mangione, who is only 26. However, given Franco’s youthful looks, it’s not impossible for him to play such a role. But let’s be honest, I find it highly unlikely that he would accept a part like this one at his current age.

Simultaneously, Brie and Franco are garnering positive responses for their film “Together,” which debuted at Sundance. This movie, written and directed by Michael Shanks, features the real-life duo portraying a fictional couple who relocate to a new house that harbors something otherworldly. The film’s exploration of codependency through the perspective of body horror has been well-received thus far, and it wouldn’t be unexpected if “Together” attracts a potential buyer, particularly in light of the achievements of “The Substance.
