David Geffen has filed for divorce from Donovan Michaels after less than two years of marriage.

Based on a divorce petition submitted by lawyer Laura Wasser in Los Angeles on Thursday, Geffen stated that the couple’s separation was due to insurmountable disagreements, and they do not share any children together.

It was stated in the filing that Michael will be granted alimony. Typically, this is given for half the duration of the marriage in California. The exact amount Michael, whose legal fees are being covered by Geffen, will receive was not mentioned in the court documents.

Geffen, whose wealth exceeds $9.1 billion according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, was ranked 348th among the world’s richest individuals as of May 20.

This entrepreneur was instrumental in establishing Asylum Records back in 1971, later moving on to create Geffen Records and DGC Records as well. His film production company, Geffen Pictures, has been responsible for several movies and TV shows, such as “Personal Best”, “Beetlejuice”, “Interview with the Vampire”, and “Little Shop of Horrors”.

In the year 1994, he established DreamWorks SKG jointly with Steven Spielberg and Jeffrey Katzenberg. A decade after that, DreamWorks Animation broke away to become an independently traded corporation on its own.
