David Koma Is the New Creative Director of Blumarine

As a gamer with a keen eye for fashion trends, I must admit that the appointment of David Koma as the new creative director of Blumarine has sent ripples of excitement through the fashion world. With his background at Central Saint Martins and his own successful eponymous label, Koma brings a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to the Italian house.

David Koma, who hails from Georgia, has been appointed as the new creative head at Blumarine. This designer already runs his self-named fashion house in London, which was established in 2009 after he completed his studies at Central Saint Martins. His label is renowned for its distinctive, sculptural shapes that have consistently made him a regular feature at London Fashion Week since the start.

Following Walter Chiapponi’s departure from Tod’s following one season, Koma is poised to introduce fresh ideas and a new path for the Italian fashion house. Previously, Chiapponi held the position of creative director at Blumarine before moving on to Tod’s, succeeding Nicola Brognano who revitalized Blumarine with a popular Y2K aesthetic in 2019. After four years with the brand, Brognano left in 2023, and Chiapponi joined later that year but departed after the Fall/Winter 2024 collection in March. Since then, Blumarine has recruited Koma to elevate their creative vision.

In a statement, Koma expressed his enthusiasm for his new role at the brand, saying, “I’ve always admired Blumarine for its distinct fusion of sensuality, enduring glamour, and elegance. It is an honor to contribute to the continuation of this prestigious brand’s history. I can’t wait to pay tribute to Blumarine’s rich creative legacy while adding my own contemporary perspective. The brand’s feminine style deeply connects with me, making this journey feel incredibly genuine. I look forward to creating collections that captivate our audience and usher in a fresh wave of innovation and creativity at this revered fashion house.”

Marco Marchi, as the sole director of Exelite, which holds the ownership rights for Blumarine, has issued a statement expressing his enthusiasm for David Koma. From the outset, Koma’s aesthetic has captivated Marchi. He is confident that Koma will flawlessly decipher Blumarine’s unique design codes, leveraging his imaginative vision and keen sense of style, which are marked by an undeniable femininity. This upcoming Pre-Fall 2025 collection will mark Koma’s debut with the brand.
