As a seasoned gamer with a deep appreciation for the evolution of media and entertainment, I must say that the news about David Letterman‘s new venture into the FAST space is nothing short of exhilarating! Growing up, his wit, humor, and unique interview style were a staple in my household. The thought of having an endless supply of his timeless moments at my fingertips is truly a dream come true.
For his upcoming venture, David Letterman plans to enter the growing market of free, advertisement-supported television channels (FAST).
Worldwide Pants, the production company owned by late-night TV icon David Letterman, has entered into an agreement with Samsung’s streaming service, Samsung TV Plus. This partnership will bring approximately 4,000 hours of unique content from Letterman’s team to Samsung’s platform. Excited about this collaboration, Letterman himself said, “Now I can watch myself get older without needing a mirror!
The programming for the 24/7 channel titled Letterman TV seems to be primarily based on classic footage from his 33-year tenure at NBC and CBS with Late Night and The Late Show, featuring elements like Top Ten lists, “Stupid Tricks” segments, celebrity interviews, holiday specials, backstage clips, and more. New commentary from Letterman is also included, likely discussing these past events and possibly offering fresh perspectives.
Walter Kim, executive producer for digital at Worldwide Pants, remarked that Dave’s performance was like an early viral sensation. Being part of The Late Show throughout its run, it’s exciting to curate and develop content based on memorable moments, and with over 4,000 hours of footage available, the channel will frequently update its programming.
The agreement signifies another addition to Samsung TV Plus, the streaming platform that comes pre-installed on Samsung’s television models. In a recent announcement towards Hollywood and its investors in late October, the company revealed for the first time the extent of its streaming content, boasting that it’s comparable in size to some prominent industry players.
Samsung announced that its FAST (Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television) service currently boasts 88 million monthly active users, with a more than 50% annual increase in global audience viewership as it seeks to amplify its advertising initiatives within the connected TV sector. However, according to one metric, the service might be lagging behind competitors such as Roku, Tubi, and Pluto TV, all of which are included on Nielsen’s latest Gauge monthly tracker that calculates streaming and linear device TV usage.
Samsung TV Plus is working hard to create an entertainment space that feels tailored, significant, and within reach for all, stated Salek Brodsky, their svp and general manager. ‘Letterman TV’ is a project we’re excited about because it brings the legendary humor and discussions of David Letterman to a new generation, while offering dedicated fans an opportunity to re-experience and appreciate the moments that have made him a cherished television icon.
