David St. John, ‘I Am Jazz’ and ‘America’s Next Top Model’ Producer, Dies at 56

I’m deeply saddened to share that David St. John, a remarkable executive producer who brought us captivating shows like America’s Next Top Model, I Am Jazz, and The Ts Madison Experience, is no longer with us. At just 56 years old, his spirit will continue to live on through the impact he made in the reality TV world.

On December 19th, St. John lost his life due to pancreatic cancer at the Virginia Mason Medical Center situated in Seattle, as per the official announcement.

Between 2015 and 2020, St. John was the executive producer of ‘I Am Jazz’ on TLC for four seasons. This show focused on the life of Florida teenager Jazz Jennings, who is transgender. In 2016, it won a GLAAD Media Award in the category of outstanding reality program.

David was not just the executive producer of I Am Jazz, he was like family to us, and we held him very dear,” said the Jennings family in a statement. “In our toughest times, he brought light into our lives with his kindness, convinced us that things would get better, and gave us the courage to share our family’s story.

His kindness, contagious chuckles, and unshakeable faith in our tale will eternally be a vital thread in the fabric and enduring memory of I Am Jazz, always being a treasured piece of our collective history.

In the year 2021, St. John served as executive producer for We TV’s “The Ts Madison Experience”, a show centered around the transgender television personality. His last project, premiering in 2025 on TLC, is titled “Jay & Pamela“, and it follows the journey of a couple who were born with osteogenesis imperfecta (also known as brittle bone disease), as they navigate their engaged life together.

Starting at MTV, St. John initially worked as an assistant but eventually advanced to the role of story producer on the TV series “Taildaters” between 2002 and 2003. Following this, he spent a period providing creative advice for “America’s Next Top Model” from 2005 to 2006. Later, he collaborated as a co-executive producer on over 100 episodes of Tyra Banks’ show that aired on UPN and then the CW network from 2007 until 2011.

About 15 years back, Saint John had a pair of craniotomies performed on him at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles to take out tumors. Later, he chose to meet with patients who were about to have similar brain surgeries there. His purpose was to provide them with comfort, humor, and reassurance.

The individuals who survived are his spouse, Scott; siblings Corrine, Rachel, and those he regarded as sisters, Kirsten and Karen; along with their mother, Lynn. Information regarding the memorial services will be shared soon.

Being within David St. John’s sphere was like constantly basking in an exceptionally radiant glow, I (Drew Tappon) would say. He had this remarkable ability to elevate everything around him and, more importantly, to lift the spirits of those around him. In essence, he was a beacon that brightened our world, making us all better.
