As a lifelong DC fan, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming series, “Lanterns”. With the stellar creative team behind it and the phenomenal cast that has been assembled, this show promises to be nothing short of spectacular.
In a matter of days, “Creature Commandos” will start streaming on Max for those with subscriptions, followed by the release of “Peacemaker” Season 2 in August 2025 on TV schedules. The subsequent DC TV series to watch out for is titled “Lanterns“, a show centered around the Green Lantern universe. In recent months, this project has made significant strides such as casting Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and hiring Aaron Pierre for the role of John Stewart. Writer Tom King has shared some insights about “Lanterns“, which have only increased my excitement for the show.
King, who boasts a wealth of experience in DC Comics comic book writing and was previously involved in the development of the New Gods film with director Ava DuVernay, is currently collaborating on Lanterns with Damon Lindelof from Watchmen and Chris Mundy from Ozark, with the latter taking on the role of showrunner. Here’s what King commented when ComicBookMovie mentioned the recent casting of Chandler and Pierre:
To put it another way, I’m not just ecstatic, I’m beyond thrilled! If being “over the moon” were enough for Lanterns, I’d still be falling short. Perhaps I’m orbiting Oa? That’s quite a distance, but you should see these two side by side. Their chemistry is off the charts and I can hardly contain my excitement. I’m only allowed to hint at it, but let me assure you, it’s fantastic! The casting is spot-on. When you gaze upon Kyle, you’ll recognize a pilot with a spirit reminiscent of Hal Jordan. And when you look at Aaron, he embodies the heart, soul, and strength of John Stewart – truly a perfect fit. It’s going to be an incredible experience!
I was already excited when I learned Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre would be starring in Lanterns, but hearing Tom King praise their fitting roles as Hal Jordan and John Stewart makes me even more enthusiastic about their performances. To be honest, my worry remains that only these two established DC Comics characters have been announced for Lanterns so far. However, I’ve always trusted Chandler and Pierre to play Hal and John, and King’s comments reinforce that trust, making me even more impatient to see footage of them in action as the characters.
In the upcoming series titled “Lanterns”, the guardians of Sector 2814 will delve into a murder mystery set in the heartland of America. This investigation is set to intertwine with the main narrative of the DC Universe. Joining Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre, and previously announced cast members are Kelly McDonald, Garrett Dillahunt, and Poorna Jagannathan. The filming for “Lanterns” will commence in Atlanta, Georgia from January to June 2023, with a planned release date in 2026, coinciding with the debut of another DC production, “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow”.
Be sure to watch out for updates about Lanterns’ advancements on TopMob. Besides the previously mentioned series, don’t forget about the upcoming Superman movie set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
