Get ready, Shadysiders! Netflix has unveiled the first glimpses from “Fear Street: Prom Queen,” and it seems like we’re in for a thrilling ride filled with chills and spills. The new chapter in the well-loved horror series, which started in 2021, is coming back later this year. This time, the story revolves around the students of Shadyside High as they gear up to choose their prom queen for 1988. However, when an unconventional candidate steps into the race, some of the other nominees mysteriously disappear without a sign.
According to the novel written by R.L. Stine, the fourth film in the Fear Street series is titled “Fear Street: Prom Queen”. The recently released images hint at a mysterious figure in a red raincoat and black gloves, causing distress for the popular girls at Shadyside High. A yearbook showcasing all the prom queen candidates, two girls attempting to flee through a basement window, two individuals racing down the venerable school halls, and two prospective prom queens engaging in a confrontation can also be seen in these images.
The movie continues in the tradition of films that debuted during the summer of 2021, spread over three weeks, but unlike its predecessors, it will be a standalone production and not part of a series. Featuring India Fowler (from “The Nevers”), Suzanna Son (“Red Rocket”), Fina Strazza (“Paper Girls”), and David Lacono (“The Summer I Turned Pretty”), among others, “Fear Street: Prom Queen” is expected to embody the essence of the 1980s while also portraying the chilling realities of high school life. Interestingly, these horrors seem to be just as prevalent today as they were back then.
Welcome again to Shadyside! In the upcoming chapter of our gruesome Fear Street series, the prom festivities at Shadyside High are underway. The school’s elite clique of popular girls are engaged in their regular mix of sugary sweetness and ruthless scheming for supremacy. However, things take a dark turn when an audacious newcomer is added to the court, and strange occurrences begin with other girls vanishing mysteriously. Now, the class of ’88 is bracing themselves for a prom night like no other!
There’s More ‘Fear Street’ Movies on the Way
Although Fear Street: Prom Queen doesn’t form a trilogy, it doesn’t mean the townsfolk of Shadyside have finished their chilling tales. Recently, R.L. Stine shared with The Hollywood Reporter that there are at least three more Fear Street films in the pipeline, as the writers are currently working on them. At the moment, Stine is keeping his hopes high.
Currently, it’s uncertain whether these upcoming films will function as standalone movies akin to “Prom Queen,” or if they’ll form part of an overarching narrative. Regardless, this is exciting news for fans who have grown fond of the horror franchise since the initial trilogy was released. The earlier series was widely acclaimed for innovating in the slasher genre and embracing its R rating with gory scenes. Fortunately, it appears that the new release is following a similar path, as it has received the same MPA rating, promising more gruesome events when “Fear Street: Prom Queen” premieres on Netflix later this year.
