Deadpool And Wolverine Concept Art Gave Jennifer Garner A Comic Book Accurate Elektra Costume, And I’ve Got FOMO

As a gamer who’s spent countless hours immersed in the Marvel Universe, I must admit, the cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine were nothing short of epic! The return of Jennifer Garner as Elektra was a delightful surprise, especially considering her initial stint in 2003’s Daredevil and 2005’s Elektra. While I’m not privy to Marvel’s future plans, I can’t help but hope that this comic book heroine will make another appearance soon.

Man, I’m still thrilled about all the notable appearances in Deadpool & Wolverine. One of my favorites has to be Jennifer Garner’s comeback as Elektra, a role she played for Marvel back in 2003’s Daredevil and 2005’s Elektra. It’s uncertain if Garner will resurrect the character in any future Marvel films, but after catching a glimpse of some more authentic comic book costume design concepts, I can’t help but wish she might make another appearance.

John Staub, who is a senior illustrator at Marvel Studios, recently shared an “early pass” he did on Instagram of the character of Elektra for her secret return as the hero. Check it out:

The character from Marvel Comics, who debuted in issue #168 of Daredevil way back in 1981, is most recognized by her red headscarf and overall red attire. When Garner initially portrayed the character in Daredevil, the film chose a dark purple leather costume instead. In Deadpool & Wolverine, she donned a purple outfit similar to that of Daredevil once more.

In the concept art presented by the illustrator, he envisioned Elektra wearing a suit similar to her original character’s attire to signify her prolonged stay in The Void and the transformation of her costume over time. However, when it comes to Garner’s role in the most recent Marvel film, the costume designers chose a look that harks back to her time in Daredevil. I can’t help but feel a pang of regret for what could have been if they had chosen a design more reminiscent of the comic books instead.

Jennifer Garner, who played Elektra almost two decades ago in Daredevil, appears hardly older than her initial portrayal. However, this timeless look didn’t come without effort from the actress, as she dedicated several months to rigorous training. Here is an amazing video showcasing Garner’s transformation into Marvel shape, involving various fitness regimens, boxing, and even knife-wielding. Although Garner only had minor roles in Deadpool and Wolverine, her appearance serves as a heartfelt tribute to the Marvel movies era of 20th Century Fox.

Despite whispers in June 2023 about Jennifer Garner reprising her role as Elektra, the film set successfully kept her away from any leaks until the movie became widely known. Furthermore, Wesley Snipes’ return as Blade, Chris Evans’ portrayal of Johnny Storm, and Channing Tatum’s debut as Gambit were also notable. Tatum has long sought to embody this character, having tried to do so multiple times in the past.

Jennifer Garner didn’t don the signature red scarf on her head for Elektra’s spinoff film, although she did wear the character’s iconic red outfit. Interestingly, it seems that the red scarf, a staple of the comic book version of Elektra, has yet to make an appearance in the movies. However, knowing the design team referenced the comics when creating Elektra’s look for the movie, we can hope that this iconic accessory might appear in future installments.
