‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Deleted Scene Confirms Gambit Survives

As a long-time Marvel fan with a soft spot for Gambit, I can’t contain my excitement! The news that Channing Tatum’s Gambit survives the epic battle in Deadpool & Wolverine has me jumping for joy! I’ve been a fan of Gambit since his first appearance and was heartbroken when the standalone film was canceled. But now, thanks to Ryan Reynolds’ persistent fight for the character, we get to see more of the Cajun mutant in action!

[This story contains spoilers for Deadpool & Wolverine.]

Gambit lives!

In a previously unseen clip from Deadpool & Wolverine that Ryan Reynolds shared on his social media, it’s revealed that Channing Tatum’s Gambit, Jennifer Garner’s Elektra, Wesley Snipes’ Blade, and Dafne Keen’s Laura/X-23 all make it through their battle in the void.

As I watched the closing credits unfold, there was a sense of uncertainty about who among the characters that united to thwart Cassandra Nova (played by Emma Corrin) survived the fight. However, one thing was certain: Tatum’s unforgettable and widely-mimicked portrayal of Gambit managed to make it through the ordeal unscathed.

The video doesn’t show a lot, but it captures the character from behind, strolling amidst several henchmen lying down, followed by him swiveling once the camera moves upward, revealing his grinning face.

Although no ongoing Gambit projects have been announced yet, his survival in Deadpool 3 suggests there’s a possibility that he might reappear in a future standalone movie or pop up in another Marvel Cinematic Universe production.

Originally, Tatum was scheduled to play the role of the Cajun mutant in a separate movie. However, this project was halted following Disney’s purchase of 21st Century Fox.

Over the weekend, a theater outing featuring Deadpool and Wolverine was Instagrammed by the Blink Twice star, who expressed his appreciation for Ryan Reynolds in a post. He stated that Reynolds gave him the chance to bring Gambit to life again when he had believed it was lost forever.

“Reynolds has been a champion for me and Gambit. His efforts have touched me deeply, and I’m not sure I could ever reciprocate equally. So, I owe him for life. I adore you, buddy, and the same goes for Shawn Levy. He’s an exceptional creator in every aspect. Everything happens for a reason, and I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of this movie. To me, it’s nothing short of a masterpiece and pure, exhilarating fun. I was actually shouting in the theater! Go team!”

A week on, Reynolds didn’t stop showing affection, commending Tatum for his exceptional portrayal of the superhero in the blockbuster that smashed box office records.

“Chan was born to embody the character of Gambit, as the star of Free Guy put it. Just like me, he spent a decade striving to bring the most faithful comic book version of Gambit to life on the big screen. Remy LeBeau resonates deeply within him and needs to be brought forward. Chan has become the author of Gambit’s story. Gambit is one of the coolest, sharpest characters in comics, yet remains largely underexplored. I want more – and judging by what I saw in theaters, so do you. Saying goodbye to some of these heroes is as important as having new characters to cheer for… and cheering for Chan is effortless. Cheering for him is even easier. He’s one of the greatest, hardest working, kindest individuals in this entire industry.”
