Deadpool & Wolverine Director Says Professor X Cameo Was ‘Never Considered’

Deadpool & Wolverine Director Says Professor X Cameo Was 'Never Considered'

As a seasoned movie critic with a penchant for superhero films and a soft spot for the X-Men franchise, I find myself both intrigued and disheartened by the latest installment of Deadpool & Wolverine. On one hand, it’s a veritable smorgasbord of cameos that delights fans with its nods to the past. Yet, on the other, the absence of Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier leaves a noticeable void in this grand spectacle of comic book glory.

Contrary to the numerous appearances in the film “Deadpool & Wolverine“, director Shawn Levy has stated that Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier was not even contemplated for the movie. The main characters, portrayed by Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, are now part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As “Deadpool & Wolverine” concludes the X-Men’s era under 20th Century Fox, it is filled with numerous references, jokes, and Easter eggs related to the original X-Men series. However, fans were disheartened as Professor Charles Xavier, one of the most beloved X-Men after Wolverine, was not included in the film.

In a chat with Josh Horowitz on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, Shawn Levy disclosed that there were potential cameos left out from the final version of the film. When asked specifically about Charles Xavier’s appearance, Levy revealed to everyone’s astonishment that Professor X was never intended to be part of the movie. He clarified this by stating:

“Emma Corrin delved deeply into studying this character, as the connection between the Cassandra siblings and Professor X intrigued both of them. However, it was neither brought up nor given any thought.”

Although Deadpool and Wolverine’s movie was hugely popular and full of excitement, some viewers were disappointed that Professor X wasn’t featured in it. This was surprising since there had been whispers about him making a cameo, and his sister Cassandra Nova (played by Emma Corrin) serves as the film’s primary antagonist. Some fans wished for Charles Xavier to share scenes with Cassandra Nova. Yet, others argue that it wouldn’t fit well because neither character has ever appeared on screen together in the past.

Very Few X-Men Appeared in Deadpool & Wolverine

The movie Deadpool & Wolverine was jam-packed with fantastic guest appearances. From the array of Deadpool versions to Dafne Keen reprising her role as Laura/X23 and Channing Tatum’s first appearance as Gambit, it was a heartfelt tribute to the X-Men series. Regrettably, only a handful of original X-Men characters graced the screen in this film. Some secondary villains like Toad and a re-cast Juggernaut popped up briefly, but the mainstays of the franchise, the heavyweights, were conspicuously absent.

As a die-hard fan, I’ve always been eager for any hint about cameos in upcoming movies, and Deadpool & Wolverine was no exception. The web buzzed with whispers of Jean Grey, Storm, Cyclops, or even the original X-Men making an appearance in their final outing. During our chat, Shawn Levy acknowledged the rumors but didn’t spill the beans about whether any core X-Men characters were under consideration for the film. However, he did compliment the online community for skillfully creating a “smoke screen” that successfully concealed the actual cameos in the movie, according to his words.

The internet has provided me with plenty of fascinating information, but it seems to be obscuring the real facts about Storm and Anna Paquin’s return.
