As a long-time gamer and avid Marvel fan, I was absolutely thrilled when I heard that Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy had visited the iconic Madonna herself to secure the rights for using her classic song “Like a Prayer” in Deadpool & Wolverine. The idea of such a meeting felt surreal – it’s not every day you hear about Hollywood heavyweights seeking permission from music royalty!
I was sadly mistaken if I assumed that Taylor Swift was involved in this meeting. In reality, it was none other than Madonna whom Ryan Reynolds and director Shawn Levy met with. The goal was to acquire the rights to incorporate her famous 1989 song “Like a Prayer” into Deadpool and Wolverine’s upcoming MCU adventure, Deadpool & Wolverine. To secure permission for using this classic tune in their production, they personally requested a meeting with the iconic musician herself.
In an interview on SiriusXM, Levy shared the story of how they met with Madonna regarding the use of her song “Like a Prayer” in the film promotion. This hit track has been notably showcased in the movie’s official trailer.
We paid a visit to Madonna in person and presented to her the part where “Like a Prayer” would feature.
Reynolds quickly interjected:
Based on my experience as a music producer, I can tell you that working with established artists like Madonna comes with its own set of challenges. Contrary to popular belief, it’s not just a matter of securing a license for a song; in fact, the process is much more intricate than that.
Levy expressed, “It truly seemed we were in the presence of nobility.” The duo had an edge when courting Madonna’s approval for their use of “Like a Prayer” due to her son being a big fan of the burrito-loving Mutant. After presenting their plan to Madonna, Reynolds shared, “She gave fantastic feedback.” I kid you not, she scrutinized our presentation and suggested, ‘You must do this, this, and this at this specific moment.’ To our amazement, her suggestions were dead on and accurate.
Levy added:
I was thrilled when we received the opportunity to re-record that one crucial note less than two days after our previous session. It was just a single note, but what a magnificent note it was! Its addition significantly enhanced the overall quality of the sequence.
Is Cassandra Nova Wielding Infinity Stones in Deadpool & Wolverine?
There may be a very good explanation behind all of the Marvel characters who show up in Deadpool & Wolverine. Ryan Reynolds took to Instagram (per GamesRadar+) and revealed images of a Sling Ring — the same used by Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to open magical portals. And it appears that the Time Stone and the Reality Stone are attached to each end of Cassandra Nova’s (Emma Corrin) powerful piece of jewelry.
Using this powerful tool, it’s not hard to imagine how Cassandra could travel through Marvel’s multiverse in the upcoming film. This also explains why so many popular characters might make an appearance. Although we’ll have to be patient and wait for the movie’s premiere to find out the truth, it was recently announced that Dafne Keen will reprise her role as Laura, aka X-23, who was featured in “Logan” (2017). Keen enjoyed keeping her participation in “Deadpool & Wolverine” under wraps. According to her:
As a gamer, I found it thrilling to hide my excitement about my recent work on a project, The Acolyte. For promotion purposes, I attended numerous interviews where I had to fib about what I’d been up to. It was an amusing experience, to say the least! Re-experiencing this as a grown-up brought newfound depth to my understanding of parental anger, allowing me to infuse that emotion into my portrayal of the character.
Keen continued:
Laura in Logan experienced the loss of her father after previously having him in her life. Her newfound understanding of his importance to her is evident in her actions and wise perspective.
