As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for historical dramas, I can barely contain my excitement for this upcoming Netflix limited series, Death by Lightning! With an impressive lineup of talent, including familiar faces from Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead, it’s shaping up to be an unmissable event.
Netflix has announced new members joining the cast for their miniseries titled “Death By Lightning,” which is being developed by the creators of “Game of Thrones,” specifically, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.
I’m thrilled to be part of the same gaming world as Michael Shannon, Matthew Macfadyen, Nick Offerman, and Betty Gilpin in the series centered around U.S. President James Garfield. The team just grew with Vondie Curtis Hall, Archie Fisher, Barry Shabaka Henley, and Željko Ivanek. We’ve wrapped up production in Budapest, Hungary, and now Kyle Soller, Ben Miles, Shaun Parkes, and Alistair Petrie have joined our game as well! It’s going to be an epic adventure!
In the upcoming historical series directed by Matt Ross, Fisher will portray Joe Brown. Shabaka Henley steps in for Stephen Mckinley Henderson as Senator Blanche Bruce due to a scheduling conflict. Previously known for his role in ‘Walking Dead: Dead City’, Ivanek takes on the character of Dr. Doctor Bliss. Meanwhile, Soller assumes the role of Robert Todd Lincoln. Additionally, Miles plays George Scoville, Curtis Hall portrays Frederick Douglass, Parkes embodies Dr. Charles Purvis, and Petrie is assigned the part of John Sherman.
The Netflix series adapted from Candice Millard’s novel “Destiny of the Republic” delves into an extraordinary real-life account involving James Garfield, the 20th U.S. president portrayed by Shannon, his devoted fan Charles Guiteau, and the character who ultimately ends his life, played by Macfadyen.
Previously revealed actors set to join the cast are Laura Marcus portraying Mollie Garfield, Bradley Whitford from “The Handmaid’s Tale” taking on Secretary of State James Blaine, Shea Whigham as Senator Roscoe Conkling, Paula Malcomson playing Franny Scoville, sister to Charles Guiteau, and Tuppence Middleton, known for roles in “Downton Abbey” and “Mank,” stepping into the role of Kate Chase Sprague.
