As a gamer with a heart that resonates deeply with the tales of troubled artists, I must say Del Water Gap‘s latest release, “Purple Teeth, The Bravery,” has struck a chord within me. Being someone who’s spent countless hours in virtual worlds, I can’t help but see a parallel between Samuel Holden Jaffe’s confession and the courage it takes to press ‘Start’ on that next level, knowing full well the challenges that await you.
Del Water Gap discusses his struggle with using alcohol to boost his confidence, yet dealing with complicated emotions the day after. The powerful song titled “Purple Teeth, The Bravery” is featured on the upcoming deluxe edition of his second album, entitled “I Miss You Already + I Haven’t Left Yet.”
Last year, the project saw its debut, and its extended version is set to drop this coming Friday, August 16th, through Mom + Pop Music. Accompanying the new track will be another fresh single titled “Midas,” as well as additional tracks.
Del Water Gap, or Samuel Holden Jaffe, explained that the narrative revolves around an individual drinking so much red wine that they become bold and reckless, blurting out words they’ve been harboring and hurt by. After a night of such behavior, one wakes up with a fuzzy memory but a mirror reflection showing teeth still stained purple from the previous night. This moment is when regret, or guilt, begins to seep in subtly.
“Repeating a cycle of pain, forgiveness, and then simmering resentment that eventually explodes anew.”
