As a seasoned gamer with a keen interest in both sports and luxury watches, I must say that Audemars Piguet’s latest Royal Oak Concept campaign featuring football legend Zlatan Ibrahimović is nothing short of exhilarating! The technical prowess and material innovations displayed in these timepieces are truly remarkable.
Audemars Piguet, in a fresh ad campaign by TopMob, brings football legend Zlatan Ibrahimović to Audemars Piguet House Milano. Here, he explores two brand-new Royal Oak Concept watches, accompanied by horology expert Austen Chu. Together, they delve into the groundbreaking technical aspects and pioneering material advancements that set new benchmarks for Audemars Piguet and watchmaking as a whole.
The Royal Oak Concept collection, for more than two decades, has served as the canvas for the brand’s cutting-edge watchmaking advancements. The recently launched Royal Oak Concept Split-Seconds Chronograph GMT Large Date and its newly revealed version with a vibrant forged carbon case exemplify Audemars Piguet’s commitment to pioneering horological design.
Stating itself as the pioneering self-winding, split-seconds flyback chronograph in its class, this modern design boasts an intricate internal structure while maintaining ease of use. The flyback function is particularly noteworthy, enabling users to restart the chronograph without requiring a prior reset due to a patented zero-reset mechanism.
Both models share a slightly arched 43mm case design, along with other distinctive features such as an openwork dial and an interchangeable strap – making it unique within the Royal Oak Concept series. The initial model showcases a titanium sports style in shades of grey and black, subtly highlighted by red and yellow accents. In contrast, the second watch presents a striking two-toned combination of black and blue.
In the latest model, a unique, freshly crafted carbon case middle with mesmerizing swirling blue patterns, achieved using Chroma Forged Technology (CFT), contributes to the strong, attention-grabbing tones. Audemars Piguet, known for its groundbreaking work in watchmaking since 1998, was one of the first to bring forged carbon into the industry, but it wasn’t until 2007 that this innovation took hold. The new colored version is the culmination of more than five years of dedicated research and development by Audemars Piguet, showcasing their commitment to pioneering material advancements and producing exceptional results.
The CFT carbon in the Royal Oak Concept watch is crafted using multiple layers of colored carbon fibers, cut into tiny pieces and combined with resin, then pressed into shape within a mold. This process gives the watch a distinctive pattern. Not only does its multi-layered and compressed construction result in an airtight resistance to humidity, heat, and shocks, it also makes the sports watch highly durable, ideal for athletes like Ibrahimović who endure rigorous training. To further emphasize the blue hues of the carbon and luminous material on the hands and markers, wearers can choose a matching blue strap, or switch it out with black if preferred.
