As a seasoned action movie enthusiast who’s spent countless hours chasing villains through the streets of Gotham and battling alien invaders from the far reaches of the galaxy, I must say that the trailer for Den of Thieves 2: Pantera has me absolutely thrilled! Gerard Butler, a man who’s no stranger to playing tough-as-nails characters, returns as the gruff Detective Nick “Big Nick” O’Brien in this high-octane action crime drama.

In a thrilling twist, the actor known for films like Angel Has Fallen and 300 chooses to stand on the opposite end of the law in the intense preview for the upcoming action-packed crime drama Den of Thieves 2: Pantera. Butler reprises his role as tough detective Nick “Big Nick” O’Brien, who makes a surprising decision to abandon the L.A. Ever since its debut in 2018, action enthusiasts have been anxiously waiting for the continuation of Butler’s portrayal of Big Nick. Although the initial installment received a mix of reviews from critics, Den of Thieves resonated strongly with audiences, raking in a global revenue of $80.5 million on a production budget of $30 million. Many hailed it as a modern revival of the classic action-crime epics from the past. The sequel, titled Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, is slated for a theater release in the United States on January 10, 2025.

In contrast, Butler refers to “Den of Thieves 2: Pantera” as a “more exhilarating, sensual voyage” compared to its first installment. He adds, “We’re venturing through Europe this time, tracking down Donnie who’s now in the diamond district of Marseilles. My mission isn’t just about catching him; it has different objectives than you might think. So we’ll be in Marseilles, the Alps, and London – this journey promises to be more luxurious and undeniably entertaining compared to the last one.

Den of Thieves 2 Looks Like the Perfect Action Vehicle for Gerard Butler

Under Christian Gudegast’s direction, the initial “Den of Thieves” introduces us to Big Nick O’Brien, a tough, heavy-drinking leader of the Regulators, an elite squad within the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Simultaneously, Ray Merrimen (played by Pablo Schreiber), a former military man recently released on parole, heads up the Outlaws, a gang known for their evasion tactics and tactical prowess when it comes to outsmarting the law. As events unfold, O’Brien and Merrimen, along with their crews, find themselves heading towards an unavoidable confrontation. The plot thickens as the Outlaws devise a complex scheme for an audacious heist targeting the city’s Federal Reserve Bank, which seems almost impossible to pull off.

In the sequel, Gudegast once again takes charge of the director’s chair, with Butler as the main star and O’Shea Jackson Jr. reprising their roles. Joining them are Michael Bisping, known for his roles in “Den of Thieves” and “xXx: Return of Xander Cage”, Salvatore Esposito from “Fargo”, Orli Shuka who has appeared in “All the Old Knives” and “Gangs of London”, Evin Ahmad of “Snabba Cash” and “Who Is Erin Carter?”, Cristian Solimeno from “The English”, and Nazmiye Oral from “Sleepers”. Many others are also part of the cast.

In the follow-up to the 2018 action-heist movie Den of Thieves, Gerard Butler (known for movies like Plane and the Has Fallen series) and O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Straight Out of Compton, Godzilla: King of the Monsters) reprise their roles. This time around, Big Nick (Butler) is on the trail in Europe, tracking down Donnie (Jackson), who finds himself entangled in a dangerous and volatile web of diamond thieves and the notorious Panther mafia as they plan an audacious heist at the world’s largest diamond exchange.
