Nick O’Brien’s no-nonsense performance in the movie has solidified itself as one of his standout roles from the past two decades, and with its sequel raking in big bucks at the box office, the film is now gaining momentum on not just one, but two free streaming platforms. The gripping heist thriller has previously seen success on streaming services, but this is the first time it’s climbed to the top of both the Trending and Popular charts concurrently.
2018 saw “Den of Thieves” become a success for Butler, and though fans had to endure a seven-year wait, the sequel premiered at the start of 2025. In the interim, the original movie has been delighting action enthusiasts on streaming services for quite some time now. At present, it holds the top position on Freevee, and ranks third on Tubi. It’s not unlikely that it will climb to the number one spot on those platforms as well.
As I sat down in the cinema, I found myself immersed in the gritty world of “Den of Thieves.” In this thrilling tale, Gerard Butler brings his A-game as “Big Nick” O’Brien, a seasoned detective spearheading the Major Crimes unit of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. His objective? To dismantle a cunning band of professional robbers hell-bent on striking the Federal Reserve.
The movie keeps you on the edge of your seat as it unfolds into a tense game of cat-and-mouse between our protagonist and the ruthless criminals he’s pursuing. The film may have been a topic of contention among critics, but for me, it was an adrenaline-fueled rollercoaster ride, thanks to Butler’s gripping performance.
Is ‘Den of Thieves’ Worth Watching?
Director Christian Gudegast follows a typical pattern found in many action films, but as long as there are plenty of explosive scenes and well-timed fights, viewers usually don’t mind if the story isn’t completely unique. This is true with the movie Den of Thieves. Despite some mixed reviews from critics, it attempts to stand out by focusing on both the motivations and flaws of police officers and robbers. Unlike other heist movies, the villains aren’t just one-dimensional criminals, and Butler’s detective isn’t a perfect hero. This moral complexity keeps audiences wondering who will come out unharmed…and who might survive for a potential sequel.
For enthusiasts of intense showdowns, the film “Den of Thieves” delivers ample testosterone-fueled action, making it a favorite among viewers. Notably, other action movies like Denzel Washington’s “The Equalizer” and Jason Statham’s “Safe” are equally popular on free streaming services. However, it appears that “Den of Thieves” is enjoying an unusual advantage by being available on two of the most popular free streaming platforms, seemingly just for fun and reaping additional rewards.
As a cinephile, the unveiling of “Den of Thieves 2: Pantera” has ignited my excitement once more about the initial film. With a third installment already on the horizon, it seems that the “Den of Thieves” saga is destined to dominate box office charts for some time yet.
