As a seasoned gamer who’s spent countless hours navigating through ancient civilizations and modern metropolises alike, this Denim Tears x The Met collaboration is like striking gold amidst a sea of loot boxes. The “Knowbody Nose” capsule collection takes me on an immersive journey, blending the mystique of ancient Egypt with contemporary streetwear aesthetics.
Following its recent collaboration with Cactus Plant Flea Market, Denim Tears by Tremaine Emory has teamed up with the Metropolitan Museum of Art to develop a capsule collection based on their current exhibition, “Flight Into Egypt: Black Artists and Ancient Egypt, 1876-Now”. Named “Knowbody Nose”, this line draws inspiration from the show’s themes, featuring artistic designs that reimagine the folklore surrounding The Great Sphinx’s missing nose.
This capsule offers a concise collection of stylish, ready-to-wear items like sweatshirts, t-shirts, and tote bags. Each piece showcases an exclusive design by Emory, inspired by the thought-provoking question: “Where did an artifact from the ancient world travel to end up in a museum in a bustling urban center?” To complete the lineup, there’s a hat adorned with the gallery’s title on its brim and decorated with Denim Tears and The Met’s iconography.
The partnership between the two entities is remarkably smooth. Starting from November 17, The Met’s upcoming exhibition will showcase a selection of items from the Denim Tears x Levi’s Fall 2023 Season Three collection, such as Tracy’s black leather vest and belt styled as King Tut.
The collaborative Denim Tears x The Met “Knowbody Nose” capsule collection is now up for purchase on the Denim Tears online store, as well as at Africa Diaspora Goods (located at 176 Spring Street), and at The Met Fifth Avenue. Check out the assortment displayed in the gallery above for a closer look.
