Denzel Washington, Robert Pattinson to Star in Netflix Heist Thriller ‘Here Comes the Flood’

In the upcoming Netflix production titled “Here Comes the Flood,” Denzel Washington, Robert Pattinson, and Daisy Edgar-Jones will take on leading roles. This gripping crime thriller is written by Simon Kinberg and directed by Fernando Meirelles.

Meirelles is collaborating on this project as well, alongside Oscar-nominated Kinberg and Audrey Chon, who are both involved through their Genre Films label.

In 2020, the original screenplay was acquired by Netflix, sealing a significant seven-figure contract during a competitive bidding war for spec scripts. This period saw the streaming industry in high gear, with Netflix’s film division under the leadership of Scott Stuber, who was known for having an open checkbook. Despite some initial hurdles, including discussions with Jason Bateman regarding directing, the project endured and is now attracting A-list talent, five years later.

Title details remain secretive, but the film “Flood” has been labeled as an unusual heist movie. It revolves around a bank guard, a teller, and a skilled thief engaged in a lethal dance of cons and betrayals. The narrative is expected to unfold in an unconventional manner, not following a linear sequence.

Meirelles garnered a nomination for Best Director at the Oscars for his 2002 Brazilian crime masterwork titled “City of God“. In addition to this accolade, he has also worked on other projects such as the suspenseful film “The Constant Gardener“, and more recently, “The Two Popes“, which he directed for Netflix. This latter production earned him three Oscar nominations in categories including Best Actor, Supporting Actor, and Adapted Screenplay.

Edgar-Jones first gained prominence with her role in the romantic drama series “Normal People” and more recently appeared in the film adaptation of “Where the Crawdads Sing,” produced by Sony. Most recently, she was seen alongside Glen Powell in last year’s successful disaster movie “Twisters.

Washington recently played the lead in “Gladiator II” and is now set to headline Spike Lee’s “Highest 2 Lowest”, a reimagining of an Akira Kurosawa thriller produced by Apple and A24. This film will make its debut at the Cannes Film Festival before hitting cinemas on August 22nd.

Upcoming projects for Robert Pattinson include “Die My Love,” directed by Lynne Ramsay and co-starring Jennifer Lawrence, which premieres at Cannes this month. He also stars alongside Zendaya in Kristoffer Borgli’s “The Drama.” Previously, he led Bong Joon Ho’s “Mickey 17,” released earlier this year, and is currently filming Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey.

As a gamer, I’m represented by three different agencies: 3 Arts, WME, Curtis Brown Group, Sloane Offer, and Narrative. Similarly, Washington is handled by WME, just like Edgar-Jones who’s also with UTA, Hamilton Hodell, and Meirelles who trusts his career to LBI and Goodman Genow.
