In the fresh thriller “Laws of Man,” talented actor Dermot Mulroney delivers a gripping, intimidating performance, marking a departure from his well-known roles in romantic comedies such as “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” “The Wedding Date,” “The Family Stone,” “Friends,” and “New Girl.” However, this intensity is nothing new for him; he’s been proving his versatility for years. He’ll reunite with another skilled actor in the romantic genre, Malin Akerman (“Heavy Petting,” “Couples Retreat,” “27 Dresses,” “The Proposal”), in the film “Perfectly Imperfect,”, and this isn’t their only upcoming collaboration.
More recently, Mulroney has been advocating for the book Laws of Man, and he graciously took a moment to discuss his two collaborative projects with co-star Akerman. Notably, their initial venture, a TV series titled The Hunting Wives, paved the way for their forthcoming film, Perfectly Imperfect. As Mulroney shared, “We really enjoyed working together on The Hunting Wives, and that experience led me to try and assemble [Perfectly Imperfect]. I leaned over and asked her, ‘What do you think?’ and just two days later, she was part of the movie.
As stated in the summary (by Deadline), the movie ‘Perfectly Imperfect’ tells the story of Jake (Mulroney), a somewhat predictable single father. He embarks on a cruise with his eccentric family and an old friend, Reuben (Brian Austin Green). On this journey, he encounters Meg (Akerman), a woman with whom he shared an awkward date on land previously. As they reconnect, Jake and Meg find out that neither of them is flawless, but they might just be the perfect match for each other in their imperfections.
Turns out, Mulroney and Akerman are a pretty perfect acting pair. Mulroney told MovieWeb:
Malin Akerman unexpectedly altered her summer schedule, which happened to coincide with the completion of our project, ‘The Hunting Wives.’ This was quite a surprise, given the stark contrast between the two stories. Despite the difference, we formed a strong bond during this time. I hope we can maintain and build upon this friendship in the future.
Mulroney’s ‘Amazingly Disturbing’ Next Series
Without a doubt, the Mulroney-Akerman dynamic in “Perfectly Imperfect” wouldn’t exist without the series that sparked it: “The Hunting Wives”, scheduled for release on Starz in 2025. It has the feel of a contemporary, ‘stab your neighbor’ style show like modern day “Dallas”, filled with wealthy characters. You start to care for them, but you can sense they’re up to something shady.
A murder mystery is unfolding in our town and it’s quite intriguing! There’s a captivating TV series based on May Cobb’s novel, full of dark humor and unexpected twists. The production team has truly woven an engaging tale with this one. I’m campaigning for governor of Texas on its release, hoping the public will enjoy it as much as I did working on it. It was a fantastic experience because of its unique blend of darkness and comedy. You know what I mean – it’s devilishly entertaining!
