Dermot Mulroney Looks Good In That Chicago Fire Chief's Uniform, But I'm Really Going To Miss Boden

As a long-time fan of Chicago Fire, I must say that the upcoming season feels bittersweet. The departure of Chief Wallace Boden, played by Eamonn Walker, leaves a gaping hole in the heart of the series and the soul of Firehouse 51.

Chicago Fire is coming back on TV schedules for 2024, and Firehouse 51 will have a slightly altered appearance. Previously announced was Eamonn Walker’s departure from NBC drama after portraying Chief Wallace Boden since the series debut. The question then became who would fill his shoes. It was hoped that David Eigenberg’s Christopher Hermann would take over, but Dermot Mulroney is now set to join as Chief Dom Pascal in Season 13. Although Mulroney looks fitting in the uniform, I can’t help but feel a sense of loss for Boden already.

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions as the One Chicago franchise continues to welcome fresh talent. It’s no secret that Chicago Fire has experienced quite a turnover among its cast members over recent seasons. Bid farewell to beloved characters and greet new ones, that’s become the norm, yet it never grows easier.

I have to say, Mulroney can certainly work a chief’s uniform, no doubt about it. And it will be entertaining to see how he meshes with the rest of 51 who are probably missing Boden. And they’re not the only ones missing him. The new season hasn’t even premiered yet and, already, I’m hoping that the character will drop in soon. What I’ll miss most about Boden is his paternal presence, which shines through when he defends those who work under him. All in all, he was a grounding presence on the show.

In Season 13, Eamonn Walker might not have a regular role, but there’s a chance he could make an appearance since Boden will continue working in Chicago. Frankly, it would surprise me if Eamonn Walker didn’t return to the show eventually. If he doesn’t, I must admit, I would be quite disappointed.

In the latest development, the British actor is the most recent notable figure to leave “Chicago Fire,” making it three departures during Season 12. Following Alberto Rosende and Kara Killmer, Eamonn Walker’s exit seems particularly poignant given the other character shifts. Known for his vibrant portrayal, Walker was a series regular, and the show will undoubtedly miss him. However, there’s hope that the team will be well managed with Pascal stepping into a prominent role.

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but ponder about the potential conversations between the producers regarding the return of Boden to Fire. It would be fantastic if he becomes a regular guest star. However, it’s equally important for Dermot Mulroney’s Chief Pascal to maintain his spotlight. Here’s hoping the show strikes a balance, offering us ample Pascal moments while also incorporating Boden into future episodes.

The thirteenth season of “Chicago Fire” will debut on Wednesday, September 25th at 9:00 PM Eastern Time on NBC. Until then, catch up on previous episodes of this gripping drama by subscribing to Peacock.
