Despite Playing Star Wars' Ahsoka Tano For 16 Years, Ashley Eckstein Hypes What Actually Makes Her The 'Most Nervous I Am For Anything'

As a long-time gamer and Star Wars fan, I can’t help but be in awe of Ashley Eckstein‘s dedication and passion for her work. Her nerves before the annual Her Universe Fashion Show may seem surprising given her successful track record, but as someone who has experienced the thrill of bringing a dream to life, I completely understand where she’s coming from.

Ashley Eckstein is well-known for portraying Ahsoka Tano in the “Star Wars” series since 2008. However, voicing a Jedi in a galaxy far, far away isn’t her most anxiety-inducing role. In an interview with TopMob before her annual San Diego Comic-Con appearance for the Her Universe fashion show, Eckstein explained why this project makes her feel the most uneasy.

The Her Universe brand is coming back to Comic-Con in San Diego for its 10th annual fashion show. At this event, Ashley Eckstein and Michael James Scott will host as designs inspired by geek culture take center stage on the runway. Following last year’s celebration of Disney’s centennial anniversary, the 2024 presentation will be organized by Mattel. During my conversation with Eckstein about this year’s event, she revealed that even after nine successful shows, she still feels some nerves.

Every year, I make it a point to tell people that this show leaves me more anxious than anything else I’ve ever done. The nerves are so intense that sometimes I feel sick while backstage. Yet, I embrace the anxiety because, as they say, if you’re not nervous, then you’re not fully prepared. This show is a platform where designers can bring their dreams to life, and this year, I get to make one of mine a reality – something I have been longing to do since 2017.

Each year, making the fashion show a reality has required the efforts of many people, and Eckstein was eager to acknowledge those individuals during the Comic-Con presentation. She added:

I’m fortunate to have found extraordinary friends who, by some cosmic coincidence, have come together to support me in making my dream a reality since 2017. However, despite my excitement, I can’t help but feel anxious about the upcoming project. Every morning, I find myself asking, “Is this truly happening?” followed by deep breaths and determination to face the challenges ahead. Yet, I remain optimistic and eager for what lies ahead.

Before the 2024 Her Universe Fashion Show, which was several weeks away, she had already started feeling anxious. However, Ashley Eckstein shared with me that her nerves could be even more pronounced, either during the preparation leading up to the event or while actually hosting it on stage.

Each year brings the same amusing anticipation for me. The anxiety builds up, and as soon as I step onto that stage and deliver the opening act, my nerves transform into exhilarating excitement. It’s a rush of pure joy and adrenaline, and I can’t help but have a fantastic time. This event ranks among the most enjoyable experiences I’ve had throughout my life. If only we could capture the enthusiasm and fervor in that ballroom and preserve it for the entire year! [laughs] In moments when energy is required, I wish I could simply spray it on like perfume. I long to bottle up the electric atmosphere in that room; an experience that can hardly be described unless you’ve been there yourself.

On Thursday, July 25 at 6 p.m. Pacific Time, the Her Universe Fashion Show 2024 will happen in the Harbor Ballroom of Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel San Diego during Comic-Con in San Diego. Previous shows are available for viewing on the Her Universe YouTube channel, including their virtual fashion show from 2021. Additionally, Ashley Eckstein’s portrayal of Ahsoka Tano can be found in various Star Wars projects, such as The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, and Tales of the Jedi, all accessible with a Disney+ subscription.
