According to reports, the creator of the Devil May Cry series, Adi Shankar, is considering launching a new project based on Arc System Works’ BlazBlue. However, this is merely speculation at this point.
Shankar has played a key role in teaming up with Netflix for several video game adaptations. He held the position of executive producer in the Castlevania series, developed Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix inspired by Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, and more recently, he’s taken on the roles of creator and developer for the Devil May Cry adaptation.
Shankar posted on social media two pictures related to Blazblue. One was the genuine Blazblue emblem, while the other displayed several characters from the series, such as Ragna, Jin Kisaragi, Noel Vermillion, among others.
Recently, during the Blazblue discussion, Shankar also posted the Killer Instinct emblem as well as a picture featuring multiple iterations of Capcom’s characters. This detail has managed to slip under the notice of many.
In essence, Shankar’s upcoming project might not meet fan expectations, as his interpretation of DMC (Devil May Cry) appears to be superficial and overly reliant on memes, rather than capturing the elements that made Dante, Vergil, and their comrades memorable originally. His reputation within the gaming community seems to be diminishing as a result.

Shankar playfully responded to fans’ jokes, suggesting that the most unfortunate fate for one’s adversaries might be an “Adi Shankar Netflix interpretation of their cherished video game.
Regardless, crafting a narrative for a fighting game like BlazBlue might present the creator with their toughest task yet, given its over-the-top and intricately complex plot twists.
Discussing anime adaptations of fighting games, it’s worth noting that Guilty Gear has been turned into a show titled “Dual Rulers.” At present, this series is still in production, having already aired two episodes at the time of writing.
For nearly ten years now, Blazblue has essentially been on hiatus, excluding Cross Tag Battle, which was more about combining characters from RWBY, Persona 4 Arena, and Under Night. The possibility that the series might return is just speculation at this point.
