25 years ago, I was there when my character Dewey Riley, portrayed by David Arquette, ended Ghostface for good in “Scream 3”. But just like any good horror story, the mask returned in “Scream 4”, and poor Dewey found himself back in the thick of things. Over the years, we’ve seen Dewey return to face the infamous Ghostface again and again, until finally, a newer version claimed his life (or so it seemed). But guess what? The Deadline has confirmed that David Arquette will be reprising his role in “Scream 7”, scheduled for release in 2026. MovieWeb recently had a chat with the veteran actor to dive into his experiences in the franchise and get his thoughts on Kevin Williamson stepping up as director for the next installment.
As a die-hard cinephile, I can’t contain my excitement when I say that it’s absolutely thrilling to witness Kevin stepping into the director’s chair for one of the Scream movies. His role in shaping this iconic world, alongside the legendary Wes Craven, has been instrumental from the start. To see him direct now is a testament to his multi-faceted talent as a writer and director, and it’s just fantastic to witness his growth within this industry. He truly is an exceptional individual, both professionally and personally.
Regarding the 25-year anniversary of “Scream 3”, Arquette reminisced about which “Scream” film experience stood out the most from years gone by. Reflecting on the past, Arquette stated, “The first one was truly exceptional; that initial cast. Meeting Wes Craven for the first time, collaborating with him, truly transformed my life. He left a profound impact on me beyond just acting. He was an exceptional mentor.
Filming “Scream 3” was quite an adventure since we worked on it at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles. This meant that most of us returned home after work, creating a unique atmosphere compared to when everyone is together on set. Additionally, there was a subplot involving a movie within a movie which added an intriguing layer to the production. We had numerous cameos from fascinating characters, including Carrie Fisher and other interesting personalities. Being a part of this project was quite entertaining due to these unexpected encounters.
From a Deputy in ‘Scream to a Crooked ‘Mob Cop’
Anticipating the arrival of Scream 7, fans can instead savor seeing Arquette portray a unique type of law enforcement officer in the series titled Mob Cops.
When portraying a character such as this corrupt police officer, I found it intriguing that he didn’t view his actions as inherently wrong. Instead, he believed he was ridding the streets of criminal elements. Unfortunately, occasionally collateral damage occurs. This aspect, the balancing act between justice and chaos, is an integral part of the role.
Later on, they received compensation for their work. This allowed me to support my loved ones. Moreover, Arquette stated that his character wasn’t similar to the one Jeremy Luke usually portrays, who seeks fame and recognition. Instead, as an actor, I imagine this character justifying it this way: he’s doing it for his family. The film “Mob Cops,” distributed by Lionsgate, is set to hit theaters, on-demand, and digital platforms on April 25, 2025.
