As a devoted film enthusiast, I must warn fellow viewers who haven’t yet caught up with the eighth episode of “Dexter: Original Sin”. If you’re still waiting to stream it on Showtime or Paramount+, beware! Spoilers lie ahead in this discussion.
When Dexter: Original Sin started off by unveiling an unexpected continuation beyond the not-so-final ending of New Blood, implying that Michael C. Hall’s character would live on to star in the upcoming Dexter: Resurrection spinoff, it challenged my assumptions about how similar the prequel might be to Showtime’s original show. However, things quickly fell into comforting patterns as Patrick Gibson hammed it up amidst a talented cast of potential counterparts, all probing interconnected murders. Intriguingly, it seems that its initial serial killer adversary is also identical…in some fashion.
How To Watch Dexter: Original Sin Online And Stream The Prequel Series Free From Anywhere
As a film enthusiast, I can’t help but express my excitement over the shocking revelation in “Business and Pleasure,” an episode from Dexter, which appears to have been masterfully crafted by its creator, Clyde Phillips. The jaw-dropping twist seems to suggest that the mysterious NIH Killer, whose crimes remain unsolved, is none other than Brian Moser, Dexter’s half-brother (or full brother, technically). If this turns out to be true, it would undoubtedly set the stage for one of the wildest plot twists in any TV series scheduled for 2025.
Harry Discovered Brian Moser’s Mental Hospital Records
This episode concluded by revealing a pivotal moment in the lives of Dexter and Brian, one that ultimately led to their confinement within the notorious shipping container with their mother Laura. Given this, it’s no surprise that this installment also presented evidence supporting the idea that Brian re-entered Dexter and Harry’s lives long before anyone could have anticipated.
Upon finding the slain body of Dr. Paul Petrie, who had been linked to earlier killings through his car, Detective LaGuerta expresses a thought-provoking observation to Detective Harley, played by Christian Slater.
I wish your son was here so he could do his…thing.
It turns out that Brian Moser was never thought of as Harry’s son. In reality, this is the crux of the issue, which becomes clear to the detective upon finding Brian’s records in Dr. Petrie’s archives of files. Theoretically, Dexter’s brother just needed to be adopted by the same family as his only remaining relative. This was a topic he frequently discussed during therapy sessions, as indicated by some of the information Harry was reading.
In other words, Laguerta’s comment can be interpreted as expressing what Brian might have wished for himself. It’s important to note that I don’t think Brian would have been a morally perfect individual like Harry’s son. Remember, Dexter was still a killer, but he had justice as his guide. Given that Harry didn’t prevent Dexter from becoming a killer, it’s uncertain how his code might have influenced Brian.
In other words, while Dexter: Original Sin didn’t definitively prove that Brian Moser is the NIH killer like the series has unequivocally shown Captain Spencer’s involvement in kidnapping and harming his son, it strongly suggests that this might be the case, especially since the Miami Chills ice truck reappeared only two episodes ago. Additionally, Clyde Phillips’ statement about the prequel being a “family show” seems to add more thematic weight to this theory.
How Will The Show Explain Brian’s Involvement Without Dexter Learning Anything About Him?
If the O.G. series hadn’t gone to great lengths to make the twist about Brian as shocking as possible, with neither Dexter nor Debra having a clue about his true identity or connection to their lives, it would be simpler to accept this “Original Sin” revelation. However, I find it difficult to imagine how Harry can accomplish three main tasks: A.) solving the NIH killer’s case in a way that doesn’t implicate Brian, B.) devising a method to prevent Brian from killing again without making an arrest, and C.) keeping Dexter (and others) from uncovering more evidence linking Brian to their lives.
In my viewpoint, the situation seems to unfold smoothly and without complication if Brian acknowledges that he’s been exposed by Harry. This recognition could prompt him to cease his deadly actions, providing Harry with a sense of security regarding his own concealed identity. It might be possible that Brian is unaware of Dexter’s new role within the Miami Police Department. Discovering this fact could lead him to reconsider his choices and focus on more important matters.
If Harry and Brian interact directly about Laura’s death and their family ties, it could potentially complicate the characters’ histories unnecessarily. It would be intriguing to explore why Harry chose only to adopt Dexter rather than both sons, and I speculate that Dexter’s visions of his father in the primary series might not carry as much emotional weight if it’s established that Harry believed Brian was no longer a danger, causing him to die with this secret hidden.
As a movie enthusiast, let me share my thoughts: While I’m a bit skeptical about the franchise reprising Brian Moser as the Season 1 villain, I must admit that if they manage to intricately weave all these complex elements together without relying too heavily on plot devices, it would undoubtedly leave me awestruck.
Dexter: Original Sin’s Episode 9 Trailer Is Focused On Debra And Spencer
In terms of building anticipation for the penultimate episode of its first season, Dexter: Original Sin isn’t providing many hints about Brian Moser for fans to speculate on. Instead, the trailer appears to be preparing for a chaotic “Bring Your Sister To Work Day” scenario involving Dexter, the expert in splatter, and Debra, who is known for causing trouble.
It might turn out to be a fortunate experience for the family, as Sarah Michelle Gellar’s character could potentially inspire Debra to choose joining Miami P.D. over getting involved with questionable men.
As a dedicated cinephile, I must admit that I’m utterly baffled about how the NIH killer’s revelation will unfold. Similarly, I find myself at a loss as to where this series is steering Captain Spencer and his peculiar son-cum-Lunchables-consumer. Yet, it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if these seemingly disparate storylines somehow intertwine and reveal a deeper connection.
Dexter’s Original Sin is available for streaming every Friday on Paramount+. You can also catch its broadcast versions on Showtime, airing Sundays at 10:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
