As a huge fan of the original “Dexter” series, I can hardly contain my excitement for this prequel, “Dexter: Original Sin.” The images and casting announcements released by Paramount+ and Showtime have only heightened my anticipation.
The Morgan family is making their prequel debut.
As a longtime fan of the original “Dexter” series, I’m thrilled to see Paramount+ with Showtime giving us a sneak peek into the prequel “Dexter: Original Sin.” The first-look images they’ve released are nothing short of intriguing.
A ten-episode thriller is set to unfold, fifteen years before the introduction of Michael C. Hall’s beloved character Dexter to viewers. In this prequel, we will explore the origins of the young serial killer undergoing his training. Michael C. Hall, who serves as an executive producer for the series, famously portrayed Dexter on Showtime’s long-running series from 2006 to 2013 and reappeared in the 2021 limited revival titled “Dexter: New Blood“.
Original Dexter showrunner Clyde Phillips returns in the same capacity for Original Sin.
In the year 1991, Miami serves as the backdrop for “Dexter: Original Sin.” The story unfolds as Dexter (Gibson), who’s no longer content being just a student, succumbs to his irresistible violent urges. To cope, he seeks advice from his father, Harry (Slater). With Harry’s teachings, Dexter develops a set of rules that help him target and eliminate individuals deemed unworthy of society, all while evading the scrutiny of law enforcement. This proves to be quite a test for young Dexter as he starts his forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.
Completing the ensemble are Patrick Dempsey (as Aaron Spencer), James Martinez (Angel Batista), Christina Milian (Maria LaGuerta), Alex Shimizu (Vince Masuka), Reno Wilson (Bobby Watt), and in a guest role, Sarah Michelle Gellar portrays Tanya Martin.
Dexter: Original Sin is overseen by showrunner Phillips (of Dexter and Nurse Jackie fame), and produced by Showtime Studios and Counterpart Studios. Additionally, Scott Reynolds, Hall, Mary Leah Sutton, Tony Hernandez, Lilly Burns, Robert Lloyd Lewis, and Michael Lehmann serve as executive producers. The series is directed by Michael Lehmann, who also holds an executive producer role.
