Did Wolverine Really Invent Beer In The Marvel Universe?

As a seasoned gamer and avid reader of Marvel comics, I’ve been following Wolverine’s adventures for years. And let me tell you, the guy has some wild stories! His exploits are nothing short of legendary, from being a soldier to a samurai, an assassin, and even saving the world multiple times. But there’s one tale that stands out in my mind – the one about Wolverine inventing beer.

Wolverine from Marvel boasts remarkable abilities, but he’s also well-known for his affection towards beer. This quirky habit has been present in both comic books and various adaptations. As Wolverine returns to live-action in “Deadpool & Wolverine,” featuring Hugh Jackman reprising his iconic role, the upcoming R-rated production is anticipated to be his most risqué adventure yet. Given Wolverine’s history with beer, it’s reasonable to assume he’ll have at least one during the film. If this happens, it would add an amusing touch if Disney sneaks in a comic book Easter egg – one that reveals Wolverine was the inventor of beer. Yes, you read that correctly.

In issue #3 of “Astonishing Spider-Man & Wolverine” by Jason Aaron, Adam Kubert, Mark Roslan, Justin Ponsor, and Rob Steen, the narrative follows Spidey and Wolverine as they’re transported through time, from ancient eras to the distant future. The story begins with Wolverine reflecting on his past in a soliloquy. He recalls being a soldier, a samurai, an assassin, and an adventurer. Boasting that he’s saved the world, he even casually mentions inventing beer – as a panel depicts him sipping on an I.P.A., surrounded by those who revered him in the timeline. Although it may sound implausible, Wolverine’s extraordinary healing abilities have allowed him to live for centuries and journey through time numerous times.

Wolverine ain’t afraid to take credit for his greatest creation

In issue #5 of “Thor” penned by Jason Aaron, Christian Ward, and Joe Sabino, the comic shifts to the past, showing Thor and Wolverine having a drink together. When Wolverine quips about growing older, Thor dismisses the idea, boasting about being in his divine prime. He even goes so far as to belittle Odin’s age while referencing Odin’s claim of bringing fermentation to mortals during ancient times. However, Wolverine sets him straight, reminding Thor that he was actually the one who invented beer with some primitive folk in a cave, thanks to time-travel exploits. Thor retorts, proposing that Wolverine and Odin should meet, as they would undoubtedly detest each other.

As a gamer, I’d rephrase that as follows: Although Odin boasts about introducing beer to Earth first, it seems unlikely he’s the real culprit. Instead, it’s more plausible that time-traveling Wolverine is responsible for bringing beer to Midgard. But without Odin initially providing beer on Earth, Wolverine might not have learned how to brew it and gone back in time. Regardless, the fact that I, as Wolverine, am credited with inventing beer adds an intriguing twist to my long-standing character history within the Marvel Universe.
