Did WWE's Jacob Fatu Get Injured At SummerSlam? New Video May Provide Answers

As a lifelong WWE fan who’s seen more than a few twists and turns, I can’t help but feel like I’ve seen this act before. The video of Jacob Fatu with the walking boot has me scratching my head, wondering if we’re being played by the powers that be at the WWE.

During SummerSlam 2024, spectators experienced a moment of concern towards the event’s finale, as they suspected one of WWE’s rising sensations might have suffered a serious injury. Jacob Fatu appeared to be unable to stand on his right leg following a collision with Cody Rhodes through an announce table, causing speculation among fans whether he was genuinely hurt or feigning injury in preparation for Roman Reigns’ upcoming return. However, as we grapple with this uncertainty, a fresh video has emerged that may offer some clarification.

It’s quite possible that fans are still speculating if Jacob Fatu will be participating in forthcoming WWE events or if he’ll make an appearance on SmackDown soon, ready to lay waste to other superstars. After watching the viral video, I’ve got a few thoughts about his potential involvement in upcoming pay-per-view events (which can be streamed with a Peacock Premium subscription).

New Video Shows Jacob Fatu With A Walking Boot

Following the conclusion of SummerSlam, fans began discussing Jacob Fatu’s condition online, questioning if he had actually been injured during the main event. Viral clips displayed a solitary referee escorting him offstage, but given that professional wrestling is centered around storytelling, it could be part of the act if Fatu was attempting to exaggerate his leg injury. Later in the evening, a video emerged showing The Haroon Twins encountering Solo Sikoa and Fatu in a convenience store. In this video, Fatu can be seen wearing a walking boot on the very same injured leg he couldn’t stand on during SummerSlam.

Two aspects caught my attention as I watched the video. Firstly, if Jacob Fatu had any concerns about his injury, he didn’t reveal it in this footage. Instead, he maintained a relaxed demeanor and even agreed to take a picture, which probably would be widely shared, indicating he was quite composed.

As someone who has had my fair share of injuries in my wrestling career, I can attest that a walking boot is often a sign of a less severe injury than what might initially seem. While it may appear that the wrestler’s ankle snapped during the match, as fans may have witnessed on TV, the fact that he’s walking under his own power without any crutches suggests that the injury may not be as bad as it looks. I’ve had my share of injuries that required me to use crutches, and a boot alone is definitely a more optimistic sight for those of us who have been there. It’s always good to see athletes get back on their feet quickly and continue their careers, even if they have to take it easy for a while.

How Severe Is This Injury, And Could He Be “Selling” It?

In the world of WWE, which is more about entertainment than athletics, it can be challenging to report on injuries accurately because sometimes a wrestler might appear injured following a match, only for them to be taking care of personal issues rather than being genuinely hurt. On occasion, a storyline may necessitate an injury, like the situation with Jacob Fatu who was shown unable to compete, and just moments later, Roman Reigns made his return and delivered a spear to Solo. This brings me back to the timing of Jacob Fatu’s injury, as it’s worth questioning whether his inability to compete was part of the story or if he truly was injured at that moment.

This doesn’t sound good.

If Fatu had been in good health at that point, there’s no doubt he would have stepped in to challenge “The Original Tribal Chief” for Solo’s sake. Given this, I find it compelling to suggest that Fatu’s inability to compete was an integral part of the storyline, and that he could have carried on with the match if it had been necessary.

As a long-time wrestling fan, I must say that I’ve seen some truly dedicated individuals in this world of sports entertainment. Some wrestlers are so committed to their characters that they live and breathe it every single day. One such example that stands out is the infamous “Samoan Werewolf,” who took his gimmick to a whole new level by sporting a walking boot and posing for photos in public with an injury he claimed to have sustained.

In my opinion, I lean towards the idea that the truth lies somewhere in between. While it seems Jacob Fatu may have been acting out an injury during the match for dramatic effect, it wouldn’t be far-fetched to assume he genuinely hurt his leg when he collided with the announce table. The walking boot could possibly be for a less severe wound, and he might be utilizing it to hasten his recovery before his next appearance on SmackDown. Given that they have only a week to recuperate from the impacts of a major match, I’d guess wrestlers would take advantage of any advantage they can find!

Essentially, it appears that Jacob Fatu will likely face Roman Reigns in the future, given that Reigns is either planning a rematch with Cody Rhodes or starting a rivalry with The Rock. However, there’s debate about who is controlling the new Bloodline – Dwayne Johnson or Solo Sikoa. For now, fans can analyze this video featuring Fatu.

Fans can expect to uncover more answers in the near future since WWE will be back on Syfy for Monday Night Raw on August 5th at 8:00 p.m. ET. After catching that, don’t forget to peek at the 2024 TV schedule for a lineup of additional content amidst an abundance of wrestling shows.
