Two aspects caught my attention as I watched the video. Firstly, if Jacob Fatu had any concerns about his injury, he didn’t reveal it in this footage. Instead, he maintained a relaxed demeanor and even agreed to take a picture, which probably would be widely shared, indicating he was quite composed.
As someone who has had my fair share of injuries in my wrestling career, I can attest that a walking boot is often a sign of a less severe injury than what might initially seem. While it may appear that the wrestler’s ankle snapped during the match, as fans may have witnessed on TV, the fact that he’s walking under his own power without any crutches suggests that the injury may not be as bad as it looks. I’ve had my share of injuries that required me to use crutches, and a boot alone is definitely a more optimistic sight for those of us who have been there. It’s always good to see athletes get back on their feet quickly and continue their careers, even if they have to take it easy for a while.
How Severe Is This Injury, And Could He Be “Selling” It?
In the world of WWE, which is more about entertainment than athletics, it can be challenging to report on injuries accurately because sometimes a wrestler might appear injured following a match, only for them to be taking care of personal issues rather than being genuinely hurt. As a long-time wrestling fan, I must say that I’ve seen some truly dedicated individuals in this world of sports entertainment. Some wrestlers are so committed to their characters that they live and breathe it every single day. One such example that stands out is the infamous “Samoan Werewolf,” who took his gimmick to a whole new level by sporting a walking boot and posing for photos in public with an injury he claimed to have sustained.
In my opinion, I lean towards the idea that the truth lies somewhere in between. While it seems Jacob Fatu may have been acting out an injury during the match for dramatic effect, it wouldn’t be far-fetched to assume he genuinely hurt his leg when he collided with the announce table. The walking boot could possibly be for a less severe wound, and he might be utilizing it to hasten his recovery before his next appearance on SmackDown. Given that they have only a week to recuperate from the impacts of a major match, I’d guess wrestlers would take advantage of any advantage they can find!
Essentially, it appears that Jacob Fatu will likely face Roman Reigns in the future, given that Reigns is either planning a rematch with Cody Rhodes or starting a rivalry with The Rock.
