Did you know Aishwarya Rai was offered Shah Rukh Khan starrer Happy New Year? Here’s why she declined it

As a long-time admirer of Bollywood and its intricate dynamics, I find it both fascinating and somewhat poignant to reflect upon Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s decision to decline the offer for Farah Khan’s “Happy New Year.” It’s not every day that we get a glimpse into the personal lives of our favorite stars and how those decisions can impact their professional choices.

One of the most cherished films, “Happy New Year,” directed by Farah Khan and featuring Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, and Abhishek Bachchan, is a well-loved multi-starrer comedy heist from 2014. Interestingly, Aishwarya Rai was initially offered the film; however, she had to pass on the opportunity since she wasn’t paired with her spouse in the production.

During an interview with NDTV, Aishwarya Rai revealed that she was given the chance to star in Farah Khan’s movie “Happy New Year”. She acknowledged that it would have been enjoyable and exciting to work on a project like that, given its commercial nature. Unfortunately, she had to decline the offer because she wasn’t cast alongside her husband, Abhishek Bachchan.

She explained that it wasn’t possible for her and Abhishek to both be in the same film without playing opposite one another. This arrangement seemed very strange, so she chose to turn down the role.

In 2014, I had the pleasure of watching the movie “Happy New Year,” which featured stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Vivaan Shah, Abhishek Bachchan, Boman Irani, Sonu Sood, and Jackie Shroff. The storyline centers around a daring heist that unfolds at a hotel in Dubai. This audacious scheme was masterminded by Charlie, played by SRK himself, who cleverly assembled a group of individuals who were not professional dancers to participate in a dance competition within the hotel.

Over the years, I’ve been utterly captivated by the magic that unfolds when Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan share the silver screen. Together, they’ve graced numerous films such as Run, Guru, Kuch Naa Kaho, Raavan, Sarkar Raaj, Umrao Jaan, and many more. As their biggest fan, I can’t help but marvel at the chemistry they exude, both on and off screen. After 16 years of marriage, they remain one of Bollywood’s most beloved couples, and their beautiful daughter, Aaradhya, is a testament to their timeless love.

In terms of his professional commitments, Abhishek Bachchan is currently immersed in the production of Housefull 5 by Tarun Mansukhani. This highly anticipated sequel features an array of stars including Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Chunky Panday, Ranjeet, Johny Lever, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri, Sonam Bajwa, Chitrangda Singh, and Soundarya Sharma.

Under the production of Sajid Nadiadwala, under his label Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, this upcoming film is set to hit cinemas on June 6, 2025.

At the moment, Aishwarya was most recently spotted on the big screen in Mani Ratnam’s historical drama titled Ponniyin Selvan.
